Camp…It’s what we do! (Part One)

I thought I would share a little of my “Camp Life” with you today. I know when I tell people that I work at a Summer Camp and Spiritual Retreat Center, they immediately think I ride horses and play in the lake all day. Well, I do ride horses and play in the lake but, there is so much more to it! It is one of the best jobs in the WORLD! The hours are long and the rewards are indescribable and the staff is AMAZING! Let me show you a few things we get the privileged to do!

We start the day off with breakfast at 8:00 am. Today we had gravy, biscuits, sausage, and eggs. Aren’t you glad you are not on the kitchen staff? Well, I am totally grateful for all they do. They get up early and wash thousands of dishes each week and never complain about anything. Most of the time, they laugh and sing silly songs. I am not sure I would be so happy if I had to clean up this mess! LOL

Then, classes begin. This is Brenna. She is on the Special Activities Staff here. She is watching the kids play in the creek and catch critters. We need to make sure the critters are treated nice and set free at the end so they will be there for the kids next week to catch. She is also showing the boys how to make paint from creek rocks.

But, we can’t catch critter like this one!!!! This is a water snake and he is our friend. He will eat lots of mice during his life time and we leave him alone. Once the boys see him, a very brave counselor moves him to a different creek so he can hunt and play with his other water snake friends.

Want to take a bounce off the blob?

How about a game of baseball? Or, you can just roll around in the dirt like this kid! I want to apologize to all moms who have to wash “camp clothes!” SORRY!!!!

Who knew a hike could get so messy? Hey moms, did I mention I am really REALLY SORRY about the camp clothes!!!!!!

How about a friendly game of paintball? She may be tiny but, she will shoot you!!

Oh what a big boy! That is one huge large mouth bass! I am not sure but I think my mouth is bigger! LOL

This is Tuff! He is a great horse and I love him a lot! He loves to eat and he won’t go on the trail without stopping for a snack. Seriously Tuff, we have talked about brushing those teeth buddy!

That is one day at camp and the kids are here for five days. They arrive on Monday and leave on Friday. I haven’t got to show you other cool things so I will do a part 2 soon. Do you see why I have one of the best jobs in the world?

Camp…It’s what we do!!

Note: I blurred out the faces to protect the innocent.

Happy Creating,
