Storing Sprinkles by Recycling
This is not an earth shattering post or anything but, I wanted to share it with you. Do you remember when I made these starfish cookies? To achieve the look I was going for I mixed several kinds of sprinkles. I have a cabinet full of sprinkles so I have to be creative. I used all the vanilla extract and saved the bottle. It is the perfect size for storing sprinkles you mix.
I didn’t have a lot left over so this was just what I needed.
I used a big container to mix but it is not ideal for storage because I am trying to limit my collection to one cabinet. Fingers crossed that I can stop buying them every time I see them in the store. Seriously, there is something about those colorful little bottles that make me lose control until I have several in my cart. The same goes for Fall magazines. I am not usually an impulse buyer but, those magazines with all the beautiful fall colors and the colorful sprinkles leave me helpless.
Anyway, the best way I know how to get the sprinkles into my new storage bottle is by using a piping bag. I plan on cutting off the tip anyway for icing so why not take advantage of it.
I told you this “Storing Sprinkles” post was not earth shattering but I need to feel organized and what better way to recycle those cute little McCormick bottles.

Happy Creating,
Genius, seriously! They are the perfect size, especially for special colors/mixes that you create on your own 🙂 I never save vanilla bottles, but I think I will now!
There are a lot of small bottles that will work well for mixed sprinkles. I bet we will look at bottles and think sprinkles! LOL
So practical, Lisa! I would guess this would work well with little liquor bottles you get on airplanes or hotel minibars. (Not that I’m a heavy drinker or anything. :-P) Thanks for sharing!
That is a great idea Mike! They would be perfect!
This is a really great idea, Lisa! Thanks 🙂
Thank YOU Nessa! 😉
Piping bag funnel, I agree, Genious! I usually roll up a piece of paper but your idea would work with dry or wet ingredients. You never cease to amaze me my dear friend. BTW: good luck on “limiting” your collection. haaaaaa.
I use whatever I have on hand D.J. and it happened to be a McCormick bottle! Hahahah
PS-I may need professional help to limit my collection! 😉
I have jar issues … I hoard , no, collect, cute ones … Especially square ones.. The hubby doesn’t understand. Guess where my sprinkles are stored. 😉
I have jar issues also Brenda! That is why I am limiting myself to one cabinet of sprinkles! LOL
What a great idea to reuse the vanilla bottles! I always use those little wine bottles to store my homemade coloured sugar and sprinkles. However, we a recipe that uses wine almost every week, so that I can use the bottle :P.
I would love to see your bottles full of sprinkles Ellen! That sounds adorable!
Hi Lisa. After your response, several other people asked me how I store my sprinkles, so I decided to write a post about it. Which means I can show those bottles to you as well :). I hope you like them!
Those are so cute Ellen!! I love them and thanks for sharing with us.
That’s great idea! I save empty sprinkle bottles from other colors and refill – even though they have the wrong color written on the front!!
This is another one of those posts that makes me slap myself in the head. I’ve been looking for a good funnel for ages……duh!!!!! I literally have over a hundred piping bags that are perfect funnels!
