Chevron Turkey Cookies
Thanksgiving is next week! Can you believe it? It is time to gather with family and friends and enjoy amazing food. Speaking of food, did you know that here in the south we call our stuffing dressing? I have never once referred to it as stuffing or stuffed my dressing inside any part of a turkey before. Now don’t get me wrong, I am not saying anything bad about stuffing. I prefer to stick to what I know when I am feeding a large group of hungry people.
So today I decided to share a little “southern tradition” with you. I made turkey and dressing cookies. Well, they are actually chevron turkey cookies that are “dressed” for Thanksgiving.
I tried a few things new on these chevron turkey cookies and I can’t wait to share all the steps with you. Let’s get started.
Supplies for Chevron Turkey Cookies:
15 Second Icing in the following colors
- Tan
- Brown
- Orange
- Yellow
- Red
Royal Icing Eyes
Round Chevron Mini Stencil
Circular Chevron Mini Stencil
Flower cutter
Mini Acorn cutter for the head
There is a secret to making these turkeys and I want to tell you all about it. The secret is stencils from an Etsy shop called The CookieCountess. They make the tails seem effortless. These stencils are my new favorites and you can get them here and here. Seriously, when you look at them don’t you get a million ideas?
Begin by making the faces with an upside down mini acorn cutter. You will need to make yellow and orange beaks. The orange go on the yellow tails and the yellow go on the orange tail.
Pipe 2 circles with a #2 tip and let it dry for a few minutes. Then pipe a beak.
I decided to make the turkey body on the flower and add an acorn for the head. I like how it turned out. You get the look of 2 cookies without the bulk.
While the beaks dry, outline and flood the turkey tails. These are just daisy cookies with 2 of the petals cut off the bottom. Let them dry overnight.
Stencil the tails. If you want to see awesome tips on how to stencil cookies then click here.
- For the boy turkey, pipe an oval-ish body on the bottom center of the flower.
- Next add some icing to the back of the acorn and place it on the tail overlapping the top of the body.
- Now, pipe the face and add the royal icing eyes.
Pipe the wings on the turkey. No pattern needed, just “wing it.”
- Next add the center fo the tie and let it dry for a few minutes.
- Add the red thing on his nose.
- Finish the sides of the tie.
- Outline the tail feathers with the dark brown icing.
The girl turkey is made just like the boy except her beak is orange and she has a little bling. Add a few Wilton Pearlized sprinkles to make her a pearl bracelet, earrings and a necklace.
I hope even if you are not a “southerner” you will enjoy my take on Turkey and Dressing. After all, everything is better when it is made into a cookie.

Ohmygosh, the use of the acorn for the turkey head is genius! Lovin’ the circular chevron stencils too.
I agree about the acorn cutter…pure genius and those faces are adorable. I wish I had the “eye” that others have for repurposing cookie cutters…occasionally something “clicks”, but not too often!
