Stocking Place Card Cookies that Hang on a Cup
You all liked the Santa’s so much yesterday that I decided to share one more hanging cup cookies with you! I have seen some really cute Christmas place cards on Pinterest and they inspired these stocking place card cookies. I am so excited about these.
I think this is a really cute idea. You can add the names to the cookies or have a food safe pen available and let your guests make their own.
Supplies for Stocking Place Card Cookies:
Red and White 15 Second Icing
Food Safe Pen
White Sanding Sugar (optional)
Stocking cookie cutter (Check your cup to make sure it is the right size and doesn’t touch the table.)
A cookie hook for each cookie like Mike at Semi Sweets made. Click here for the pattern and to see how to attach it to the cookie.
These cookies are so simple and great for beginners. I think they would make perfect for teacher, principal and secretary gifts. Add names to the cookie and fill the mug with candy or school supplies. Wrap it in a cute clear gift bag and carefully deliver it.
Outline and flood the top of the stocking with white icing. If you don’t want to write names on the cookies then, you can just outline and flood them or, you can add some white sanding sugar. Let them dry overnight. If you try to rush this part, the white icing may absorb the red from the stocking or the black from the food safe pen. I know it is hard but be patient.
Next, outline and flood the bottom of the stocking. Let them dry overnight and add a hook following Mike’s directions.
I love simple cookies and simple gifts. I think I am going to make a few of these for the volunteers around camp. I am going to fill the cups with 2 packs of hot chocolate and make some of those cute marshmallows to float on top.

These are precious! I loved the Santa and these are equally adorable. I like the shape of these, it is perfect for cookie dunking.
Such a CUTE idea…love this!
Lisa, what fun – now everyone will have a place to hang their stocking!! Love your photo too!
Like your Santa’s, these are adorable too. Love how you did your lettering 🙂
Awww, these are adorable! Love that they’re so simple, yet easy to personalize with an edible marker. I made turkey sugar cookie place cards this year for Thanksgiving, but hadn’t thought to hang them. from a mug/cup. That would have been a great idea — maybe next year!
Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
These are REALLY cute – love the marshmallows too!
I just love these so much!! How special would each guest feel to see these as their delicious little place cards!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE! I waited til my downtime to come visit, and I am glad I did! I am relishing this!
Fabulously cute idea!!
These would be so cute at a cookie decorating party! Love ’em, Lisa!
Hello: Does anyone have a suggestion for where to buy the stocking cookie cutter in this project? I can find cutters that are similar but I especially like the simple design. thanks for all suggestions.
Hi Doug,
Here is a good set of cutters with a simple stocking design: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004Y67T?ie=UTF8&camp=213733&creative=393177&creativeASIN=B00004Y67T&linkCode=shr&tag=thebeabak08-20&linkId=LQP7IBJX4IW2TFU2&qid=1407033599&sr=8-10&keywords=stocking+cookie+cutter
It is a Wilton cutter and they may stock them in stores soon so you don’t have to pay shipping. 🙂

Hi Natalie,
The good thing about sugar cookies is they stay fresh for weeks if you store them in an airtight container. Once you decorate them, let them dry completely and then store them. If you place them in an airtight container before the icing is dry, it will do weird things to them. I like to give the cookies when they are a week old or less.
Here is a good post by Bridget at Bake at 350:http://bakeat350.blogspot.com/2010/01/f-q-s.html There is a lot of great information in that post and she talks about storing and freezing decorated cookies.
That makes it even better i can bake the week before 🙂 I’v only ever baked 1 batch of cookies but i like to jump in at the deep end!!
Just to double check i allow the white to completely dry before adding the red?
Very nerv about this new cookie adventure 🙂
Thank you again for the perfect royal icing. But I made my flood icing a bit to thin I used it anyway. My question is it’s taking a while to harden it was very damp here yesterday is there anything I can do to make it harden quicker
Hi Nancy,
You can place them in front of a fan to help them dry faster. Also, keep in mind you can add more powdered sugar if you make the icing too thin. 😉
Hi, Trying to figure out what to use on the back of these cookies to hang them on a cup. Your instructions say to go to Mike @ Semi Sweets. However, when I click on the link, it says that pages is not available.
I am desperate to learn the method. Want to do something for a party.
Thanks so much. . .LOVE your site!
These are adorable, but the link to Mike’s post no longer exists. Any ideas on how I can learn to make them hang?
