Lumberjack Cookies made with a Santa Cutter

I live near Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and a few years ago, they built a place called Lumberjack Feud. It is a place where lumberjacks go and compete in events like chopping wood, climbing poles and doing all sorts of amazing things. They guys and girls that work there are very talented and athletic and they inspired me.

They inspired me to make lumberjack cookies. What? You didn’t think I was going to chop wood and climb poles did you? No way! I will stick to what I know and that is cookies!Lumberjack Cookies thebearfootbaker.comI also wanted to show you the difference between airbrushed lumberjack cookies and cookies that were not airbrushed. Sometimes simple is better but in this case, I prefer the airbrushed cookies. I feel it adds a lot of depth and character to the logs, sticks and our cute little lumberjack man. I think I will call him Paul as in Paul Bunyan. A few girls from the camp staff came over while I was taking pictures and they thought he looked like Yukon Cornelius the guy in Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer. He was the one who said,”This fog’s as thick as peanut butter!”  He kind of does look like Yukon. Tripp (my 2 year old grandson) had an opinion about who Paul looked like. He took one look and said, “Christmas!” I did make old Paul from a Santa cutter so Tripp is on the right track.

Simple Lumberjack Cookies -Sugar Cookies Decorated with Royal Icing thebearfootbaker.comBegin by cutting out some Santa cookies. Before you bake them, gently cut off the ball on the hat while the dough is cold.
Bake the cookies and let them cool completely. If your cookies aren’t flat when you remove them from the oven, click here for a trick I use so my cookies are good and flat for decorating.
Use the yellow food safe marker to draw a mustache and fir on the hat.

To prevent the colors from bleeding together, here is a trick I learned that has stopped my icing bleeding problems.
Next, outline and flood the hat area with red icing and let it dry.
Then, outline the beard area with the brown icing.

Flood the beard with the brown icing.
Next, add the fir on the hat with the red icing.
Add the mustache with the brown icing and let the cookie dry overnight.
Fill in the nose area with the flesh icing.
With the paint brush and black food color or a black food safe marker, add some details to the hat and add the eyebrows.

Now for the Airbrushed Lumberjack Cookies:

Next, outline and flood the fir on the hat with red and the brown mustache.
Airbrush around the edges of the hat and mustache. Don’t worry if you get a little brown on the face. It will just look shaded and that is the look we want.

Lumberjack Cookies via thebearfootbaker.comI really like this set of lumberjack cookies. I think it is a combination of the red with the wood that makes me happy. The tree disks were inspired (copied) from my sweet friend Callye at Sweet Sugar Belle. You can see how she used them in this set of Decorated Bear Cookies. She is amazing and inspires me everyday!

If you are looking for party ideas with a lumberjack theme, check out this party by Kara’s Party Ideas with cookies from Flour-De-Lis. That party is full of amazing ideas. As a matter of fact, I have been inspired to make something else with a lumberjack theme. No! I still won’t chop wood and carve things with a chainsaw but, you will see my inspiration soon!

Bear hugs,
