I like simple cookies and these apples with worm cookies are about as simple as it gets, but I wish I’d have added a great big fat worm cookie to this set. I mean it does look like these little guys had an apple-eating party so they should have giant tummies!

Before you begin decorating the apples, you will need one royal icing worm transfer for each apple.

I found this cute apple cutter at Target when I was on vacation last year. It is about 3″ wide and 3 1/2″ high. Just keep in mind when choosing a cutter, you might have to resize the worm template to fit the apple. So please check to make sure it will fit properly before you make the worms.

Begin by outlining the apple with the red icing.

Next, flood the apple with the red icing.

While the red icing is wet, add a brown circle in the left lower part of the cookie.

Then, add a smaller white dot on the top of the brown dot. As I have said before, I struggle with humidity making my icing colors bleed together. I don’t worry about it so much with these cookies and the wet-on-wet technique. Everyone knows when you take a bite out of an apple and don’t eat it right away, the apple will turn a little brown. In real life, it’s not so great, but on a cookie it’s cute.

Pipe a white line on the upper right part of the apple.

Next, drop the worm onto the cookie where the hole is while the icing is still wet. Now let the cookies dry for a few hours or overnight.

Then, add a little stem with the brown icing.

Outline and flood the leaf with the green icing and let them dry completely. How to Make Apple with Worm Cookies by thebearfootbaker.comIf you want to make cookies that look like they have a bite out of them, use a circle to trim the side off of the apples. You can make some skinny and some fat to add character to your platter. Easy Apple with Worm Cookies via www.thebearfootbaker.com I am so happy we found a way to use up those worms. I think they were begging us for a few apples to eat. Who knows what the future holds for them though. They may need to look out for hungry fish!
