Simple Candy Corn Cookies
Halloween is upon us! Do you hear the creaky doors and the creepy moans? No? That is because this tutorial is not a scary tutorial. It is a tutorial about some sweet simple candy corn cookies. The reason they are so sweet is well, they are “sugar” cookies. Hehehe
I know that candy corn cookies aren’t something awe-inspiring or earth shattering but that is okay. I bet you have made them before but, have you made a candy corn cookie wreath? They are a perfect addition to a dessert table and when you stack them like a wreath, they become a statement because you take something simple and turn it into a centerpiece.
Supplies for Simple Candy Corn Cookies:
Candy Corn Cookie Cutter or you can find different sizes here or here or here. I used a 3″ candy corn cutter for these.
White Icing
Orange Icing
Yellow IcingHere is a little chart I made for you. I felt creative and wanted to make a Halloween costume but, I though this little chart would be faster. I was right and I didn’t have to drag out the sewing machine. 🙂
Let’s talk about flooding and outlining cookies. When you outline and flood a cookie, there are different ways to do it. You can outline a section and wait a few minutes, then flood that section. Another way is to outline a section and flood immediately. The difference is in the edge. If you wait a few minutes, you will have a visible edge on each section but, if you flood immediately, it will look flawless and smooth. Mine aren’t flawless but, you get the idea.
Since these cookies look simple, I chose to outline and flood immediately. Outline and flood the top of the simple candy corn cookies with the white icing and the bottom with the yellow icing and let them dry completely.
Next, outline and flood the center with the orange icing.
Let the cookies dry completely or over night.
Once they are dry, arrange the simple candy corn cookies on a pretty cake stand by stacking them in a circle so they look like a wreath. The simple candy corn cookies will become a beautiful focal point or centerpiece.
The wreath was inspired by a candy corn wreath I saw at Hobby Lobby. It made me think of a cookie wreath I made for Christmas last year. Do you have an idea for a cookie wreath? If you do, I would love you to leave a comment telling me about it. Or better yet, send me a picture.
Bear hugs,
Did you say Candy Corn?? Simple and fun, feel like I may been a deprived child without these 🙂
I think candy corn are the happiest of all the Halloween candy! And the way you made them into a wreath makes me happy!
Very cute….where did you find the candy corn cookie cuter? I have one but it is larger than this one,I think. The cookies look to be slightly bigger than real candy corn.
I attached a few links under the supply list. The candy corn cutter I used is a 3″ cutter but any size will work.
So cute and simple.
I love cookie wreaths/themes platters. The turkey and poinsettia are favorites.
DARLING! I am a candy corn junkie! Do you have any photos of what it looks like when you wait a few minutes to flood after outlining it, and then a photo of what it looks like when you immediately flood? THANK YOU!
