Did you see the title of this tutorial? It says these are “Easy Turkey Cookies.” That couldn’t be more ture. These cute little guys are #2 in my 10 days. 10 turkeys. 10 different cutters and I have to admit, I wasn’t so sure about a pineapple cutter turkey cookie but, boy oh boy do I like him. He is my favorite so far.

As I was looking through my cookie cutters for things that could be made into a turkey cookie, I saw the pineapple cookie cutter and thought it might work. I imagined a chubby little turkey with tail feathers jetting from above his head with a terrified look on his face. Why is he terrified you might ask. Well, we all want to get a nice “big” turkey for the holiday table and let’s face it, this guy will be grabbed first. There is a lot of meat on this bird!

When I originally made these cookies I use decorating bags with couplers and tips. Now there are Tipless Decorating Bags and I really like them They make decorating fun with an easy cleanup process. The ones I use are from Truly Mad Plastic, or Flour Box Bakery, or from The Cookie Countess
Food-Safe Marker

Optional:

Cookie Turntable Swivel for Cookies turntable with the Mini mat
Place your cookies in front of a fan so the icing will dry with a nice shine.

The next time I make these cookies I am going to make them with my Gingerbread Cookie Recipe. I think the dark-colored dough would look great and I know it will taste amazing and make my house smell oh so good.

Outline and Feathers:

Outline the body of the turkey with the brown icing. As you can tell by the photo of my turkeys look identical. I like to mix things up and give each cookie a little personality of its own.
Next, start making the feathers.

You need to use the tick icing to make them look textured. It is a very easy technique because all you have to do is pipe a dot, and pull it towards the edge of the cookie as you release pressure on the piping bag. As you get close to the edge of the cookie, give a quick little jerk to make the teardrop shape have a point.

Work your way to the tip of the feather and repeat on the other side of the feather.

TIP:

I like to work one side of the feather and then move onto the next color. Then, I turn the cookie upside down and repeat for the other side of each feather.

Look at those feathers! Who knew a pineapple cookie cutter would make perfect feathers for our cute little turkeys?

Time to Flood:

Next, flood the body with the brown icing.

Add the Candy Eyes, Beak and Toes:

While the icing is wet, add the candy eyes. You can use any size you want but these are made with the large template found here. Let the cookies dry for about an hour before adding the beak and toes.

For the beak, outline, and flood an upside-down orange triangle any size you want under the eyes.
Then, pipe a few orange dots for the toes.

See how the toes look like three dots instead of one large dot? To make them look like that, all you need to do is pipe two dots with a little space in the middle. See the first turkey in this photo?
Pipe the two orange dots and wait for about 20 minutes and then pipe the center dot. It will allow the icing one the first two dots to crust over. When you pipe the middle toe, they will all hold their shape and the icing won’t run together.

Add the Snood:

Next, pipe the little red thing that hangs down the turkey’s face. I think it is called the snood. I used to think it was the wattle but, that is the part that hangs down the neck. Thank goodness Google set me straight! I love Google search!

What do you think about this chubby little guy? Would you pick him first for your Thanksgiving Day feast? By the look on his face, I think he knows he won’t last long until someone gobbles him up!
