Easy Snowman Cookies
I love all things simple. I wanted to make some easy snowman cookies with a little bit of a twist by making 3D noses and arms out of fondant so they would look unique and irresistible. Well, take a look at them. they are very simple. They do have fondant arms and noses but, they aren’t quite what I expected. Don’t get me wrong now, I would totally make them and give them as gifts, party favors or even send them to school for the kiddos but, I am not crazy about the arms. Do you see the arms? Do you see how they are making the icing stand tall above the rest of the snowman? I didn’t want that to happen. But I think I have an idea to fix it so stick with me until the end of the post.
Supplies for Easy Snowman Cookies:
Snowman, Skull or #8 Cookie Cutter
Sugar Cookie, Gingerbread Cookie or Chocolate Roll Out Cookie Recipe
White Royal Icing
4mm Black Edible Beads
Orange fondant (recipe here or you can buy this at your local craft store)
Brown Fondant (or you can buy this at your local craft store)
Dusting pouch filled with a mixture of half cornstarch and half confectioners’ sugar
Fondant tool (maybe-see video)
First thing you need to do is make or buy some fondant. You will need orange and brown.
Roll out the orange to look like carrots and the brown to look like sticks. Here let me show you want I mean with this video:
Let the fondant dry overnight.
If you don’t have fondant tools, you can use a sharp knife to cut the sticks and the side of a toothpick to make the indents in the nose. If you want fondant tools, you can use a Michael’s coupon and get 40% off. I love those coupons!
Next, bake up a batch of your favorite sugar, chocolate roll out, or gingerbread cookies and cut out some snowmen with your favorite snowman cutter.
Then, outline them with the white royal icing.
Next, flood the snowman.
I found if you don’t flood the entire body, it will make it a little easier to add the arms wihtout the risk of the icing falling off the side of your cookie.
Then, finish flooding the body and cover some of the fondant arms with the white icing.
The next picture is a little out of order because I was trying to figure out the best way to make these little guys. I like adding the arms and then adding the edible pearls and nose because, once the arms are covered with the royal icing, it will settle a little before you add the nose and eyes. But you have to work fast and add the nose and edible pearls while the icing is still wet or it will not stick.
Add two edible pearls for the eyes and three for the buttons.
Add a little carrot nose and you are done! Easy right!
If you chose to flood the entire before you add the arms, this is what it will look like. Like I said, I did it a few different ways and I like the way I showed you a minute ago. But make it any way you want because it is your snowman and you can build it any way you want even if you aren’t in the meadow! 😉
Remember when I told you I didn’t like the way the snowman’s arms were showing through the royal icing? Well, I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before but, I think all we need to do is flatten the end of the fondant that will be on the cookie. If it is flat, the icing will be smoother and flatter and I think it will work a lot better. It may increase the risk of the arms breaking off so I would be careful when stacking them.
I will make them again soon and let you know how it works. Until then, here are a few more snowmen you can enjoy.

Have you ever tried adding fondant to royal icing? If so, did you like the results?
Bear hugs,
LOVE THESE……So cute, I know I asked this last year sometime but what pearl brand to you use, I made sunshine faces last year and the next morning the faces had been punched in the eyes!!! They bled. These look quick. I like fondant, but always have loads left over and goes hard after awhile, any suggestions to keep it soft longer please would be grateful. x:)x
I had to edit the reply I gave you yesterday. I have the same problem with the amount of fondant so I am working on a solution to that.
Also, the brand of 4mm beads has been different for me and I don’t have any trouble with them bleeding. If you want to use the ones I use then click the link under the supply list. I have also used CK brand with no problems.
Thank you Lisa, I knew I could count on you for answers:). You’re the best. X:)X
You know what Claire? I have the same issue with the fondant and I am working on something that just might help us. Stay tuned! 😉
Lisa, they are sooo cute! I love that you showed different ways to build a snowman 😉
Very cute.
Lisa – you had the same issue as Claire re the eyes “bleeding” by a.m. or the fondant hardening?
The eyes could be added after the frosting has hardened but would involve (using a food tweezer) dipping them oh-so-carefully in a tiny bit of wet frosting and then adhering. Time consuming, but it’s an idea.

Hi Tavette,
I use those edible pearls all the time and do not have trouble with bleeding. Great suggestion for those who have trouble.
