Burlap Heart Cookies

Do you like the burlap and shabby chic style that is so popular right now? I like how the trend has influenced our home decor and how it has also influenced our cookie, cake and cupcake decorating. I think my favorite part of this trend is the burlap. People are making everything from burlap wreaths to table runners and chair covers . I have made a few burlap things for my home but making burlap heart cookies is one of my favorite burlap crafts. When you add a simple ribbon rose to it, it makes this the ultimate shabby chic cookie.

How to make Burlap Heart Cookies:

Begin by outlining and flooding the heart with brown icing. Let it dry for several hours.

Next, pipe some vertical lines on the cookie. Try to space them evenly apart. This is important because it can make the pattern look weird if they are spaced correctly.

Once you have piped the vertical lines, start working on the burlap pattern.

Make a row of little lines across the first vertical line. Leave space in between each little line.
With the next row, start in between the lines you made on the first row. This will look a little strange at first, but it will make sense in a few minutes.

Keep repeating this pattern until you reach the other side of the cookie.

Do you see the burlap pattern now? I told you it would be strange initially, but now you can see how it all comes together to make a pretty shabby chic cookie.

When I think of shabby chic cookies I think of a lot of occasions where they are used as favors and gifts. I have seen them at weddings, birthdays and I have even seen them given on Valentine’s Day. I don’t know about you but I would love someone to make these for me.

Enough about me, what is your favorite style of home decor? Do you like shabby chic? Rustic? Modern? Have you ever made cookies to match your decorating style? If not, you should. It is a great way to spend an afternoon.
