How to Make a Royal Icing Primrose with a Step by Step Video via www.thebearfootbaker.com

I have been promising you royal icing flowers ever since I shared the flower nail template way back in September but I never finished them. I shared a few but never completed all the flowers. It has been on my to-do list and I have tried multiple times to make the tutorials but sometimes life gets in the way. As a matter of fact, I have been promising you I will make more royal icing transfers and I have made many, many patterns but I not made the transfers yet. Well, I am back in the groove and ready to tackle things on my list. I shared the Royal Icing Daffodils yesterday so today I want to share the Royal Icing Primroses.

A royal icing primrose is a simple little flower with heart-shaped petals. I think these and the apple blossoms are my favorites to make and they work well as little accents on animal cookies and you know how I love making animal cookies like these little pigs.

I am a visual person and like to watch how things are made so I made you a short little video. Enjoy!

Begin by cutting out the ‘Primrose” flower nail template. Use a piece of double-sided tape to stick it to the top of the flower nail.
Then, add a piece of double-sided tape to the top of the primrose template.

Then, add a parchment paper square to the pattern.

Next, use a rose tip (#102,#103, or #104) with the wide end at the center of the template.

Hold the tip at a 45° angle.

Apply gentle pressure and pipe towards the edge of the flower nail while gently spinning the nail. Make the petal in a heart shape and release pressure as you return to the center.

Repeat the process until you have five petals. As you can see in the photo, I made some with four petals just to see how they would look. I like the way they turned out.

Once you have made five petals it should look like this.

Next, use decorating tip #14 to pipe a star in the center.

I like to let the flowers dry a little before I pipe the centers. I think they look a little more like stars but you can make them while the royal icing primrose is wet or after it dries for a while.
Once you pipe the flower, you can pipe a dot in the center or add an edible pearl.

I am going to get busy and make some royal icing mums and violets and that will complete all the flowers on the nail template. Stay tuned for more royal icing transfers and more flowers because I’ll be adding them soon.
