Airbrush Gun Replacement for under $25!
Do you hear that? It is baking season knock, knock, knocking at your door. It is fast approaching and we need to make sure we are ready for it. I am not talking about piping bags and decorating tips. Although those things are important, we need to check things like our airbrush guns to make sure they are ready for the holiday stress we are about to put them through.
I have had several emails lately of people asking for airbrush gun help. Most of them just need some tips on how to take the airbrush gun a part and clean it while others need a new airbrush gun replacement. Don’t panic! I am here to help you save some money. Just because the gun needs to be replaced doesn’t mean you are going to spend over $100 to replace it. And I found a great video to show you exactly how to take your gun apart, clean it and assemble it again.
Airbrush Gun Replacement:
I know airbrush guns and systems can be confusing but don’t worry. I am here to help simplify the process.
First of all there are different types of triggers on airbrush guns.
- Single Action Airbrush Gun- On a single action airbrush gun, the air will flow out of the nozzle all the time. Once you turn on the machine, the air will flow out of the airbrush gun tip. It will not spray color until you pull back on the trigger.
- Dual Action Airbrush Gun- With a dual action airbrush gun will not let air flow out of the nozzle until you push down on the trigger. Then, you pull back on the trigger to release the color.
I will be honest. I don’t have a preference as to which one I like better, but if I had to chose I would say the single action because you simply pull the trigger to start airbrushing.
Now let’s talk about replacing the guns. This is a 0.4mm Single-action Airbrush Spray Gun Makeup Nail Cake Decorating Precision Air and right now (at the time of this post) it is only $24.95. So if your compressor is working and your gun is broken, don’t spend over $100 on a new system! Just buy an airbrush gun replacement for about $25.
This is a PointZero Dual-Action 2cc Gravity-feed Airbrush 3 Tip Set (0.2mm 0.3mm 0.5mm) and right now (at the time of this post) it is $23.99. Not a bad price huh? Before you purchase a new airbrush gun replacement, pay attention to the part of the gun that connects to the hose. Does it need a connector or does it just slide into the hose? You want to make sure to get one that will fit your system.
If you need to clean your airbrush gun you have to watch this video by Mike from Karen’s Cookies. It will show you everything you need to know!
See! Told you the video was very helpful!
I want to share a picture that Lilly sent me. She emailed me and was about to buy an entire new airbrush system. I think I kind of yelled, “NO! DON”T DO IT!” in my email. I didn’t want her to spend money she didn’t have to spend if it was just a broken airbrush gun. I sent her some Amazon links and she bought one. Then, she told me it worked perfectly and shared some pictures with me.
Aren’t her cookies cute! Thank you Lilly for sending me the pictures of your amazing cookies. I can’t wait to see more of your airbrush cookie art!
Now before you go buy one of these airbrush replacement guns, go to Amazon and type in ‘Dual Action Airbrush Gun’ or ‘Single Action Airbrush Gun’ to see all the different kinds to find one that will work best for you. I think you will be surprised how many affordable replacement guns you have to choose from.
Bear hugs,
Wow, so much information…thank you so much for sharing your knowledge Lisa 🙂 I have been eying to get an airbrush gun but havent taken the plunge yet. Maybe for my birthday this year (mine is a few days before christmas), maybe i can persuade my hubby to give me one for a combined birth & christmas pressy lol 🙂
I hope you get one Natalia! They are very easy to use and so much fun!! Fingers crossed for you!!!
I’m probably jumping the “gun” a bit (sorry, couldn’t help it!), but I just bought my airbrush at cookie con and have been using it here and there. Is it too soon to have an extra one on hand to be safe? How long do guns last?
Hi Kim,
I think that is a very personal thing. I have 2 airbrush systems and the other day my favorite compressor broke. Sigh. The good thing is I had another one to finish the project I was working on. I am the type of a person that likes to have a spare, but I have friends who don’t want to store things.
I personally don’t think it is a bad thing to order an extra gun, but the truth is you may not use it for years. My 1st airbrush system lasted for YEARS and I used it a lot. So the choice is yours!
Semd me some picture of your airbrused cookies! I would LOVE to see them!
Lisa
Thank you so much for all of the great information! I bought the dual action gun you recommended. Great price! Always a good idea to have a back up, when making time sensitive products. ?
I am glad you bought one Janie. I like having a spare so I am never cought off guard. 😉
Hi Lisa,
I am sure I read somewhere it is OK to airbrush wet Royal Icing. I am going to flood the cookies, and then want to spray Gold Amerimist on them. Do I “HAVE” to wait for the icing to dry? I have over 100 to decorate, and would really like to cut down on “double” drying time. I figured if any one would have the answer, it would be you. ?
Hi Janine! I airbrush on wet icing all the time, but you need to practice on a few first. If the icing has time to form a crust the air flow will cause it to crack.
What works best for me is to outline the cookie and wait a few minutes. Then flood one cookie and airbrush it immediately so the icing doesn’t crack.
Let me know how it works for you! 😉
Lisa, I want to purchase an airbrush but I am so intimidated about learning to use it. Can you recommend one that is super easy for a beginner.
Hi Karen B,
I bought my airbrush system a long time ago and I am still using it. It has been years and I use it a lot and it is still going strong. I thought the compressor finally gave out the other day but it was the cord. I replaced it and the machine is still going strong.
It’s a Pegasus Airbrush System but they have changed a bit over the years. The Duff Airbrush Machine is identical except for the design on the compressor. It has three speeds, is super easy to use and is affordable. The Cookie Countess sells them here: http://thecookiecountess.com/collections/airbrush-system.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Lisa
I bought the new airbrush that Lisa from the “Bearfoot Baker” recommended. Practiced with it yesterday…I am in airbrush heaven!!!!!! Thank you Lisa for always looking out for your fellow cookie crafters!!!!!
Hi Janine! I am so glad you are in ‘airbrushing heaven!’ I love when things work well and sharing what I find with you guys!
Happy airbrushing! 😉
Thank you Lisa! You saved my life!! ?
Awe Lilly! I wish I could give you a bear hug in person!
Thank you! This video saved my airbrush!
I am glad your airbrush is working! 😉
I bought my airbrush from cookie countess. I love it but I don’t know how to get small areas without overspraying .. for instance, I’ve seen cookies that have a small airbrushed section in the middle. How close do I have to get to accomplish that look? It scares me to get too close!
Hi Danielle,
I know exactly what your talking about. After all that piping and flooding you don’t want to ruin your cookie by trying to spray a small area only to mess up the cookie.
Someone told me to buy a coloring book and practice airbrushing on the pages. It really helps you get the feel of your airbrush and helps you know how far away to hold the gun from the cookie. If you don’t have a coloring book, print some coloring images off your computer and give it a try.
Also, practice with the settings on the airbrush system to see what speed you prefer. I think this will really help you with how to use your airbrush gun and to know how much distance you need in between the cookie and the gun.
Hope this helps!
Lisa
I have my own personal airgun, I love it. I am a cake decorator & have used several different guns over the years. In a retail setting the guns are used 7 days a week, 10-12 hours a day. I know a lot about maintenance on them. You video is great. However, what about a video on the changing the fluid nozzle & the lever. The trigger lever can really be ruff. I’d like to see an easy way of fixing this. When you work in a production shop, it’s ruff to stop & fix the gun. We have back ups, but changing over the hoses, etc takes time too. Right now the gun will sometimes spray continuous. I cleaned the needle, seemed to help. But I’m sure it will happen again. Any suggestions?
Hi Linda,
I haven’t made a video on the trigger but I plan to do it soon. Until then, here are videos from Mike Summers and Hillary from The Cookie Countess. I think they will help.
