Football Cinnamon Sticks

My first job as a teenager was at a local pizza place and the only reason I wanted to work there was so I could buy myself a car. Not just any car. I wanted a 1978 Red Camaro that looked similar to the car Bert Reynolds and Sally Fields rode in while making the movie ‘Smoky and the Bandit.’ I got the job, saved my money and bought the car, but I also got more than I bargained for. I found my husband at that little pizza shop. We fell in love while docking dough and topping our favorite food with provolone cheese. Those were good times.

I don’t quite remember what year it was but we worked there when the dessert pizzas became popular. My favorite was the cinnamon sticks. Butter, sugar, cinnamon laying on that wonderful pizza crust. Yum! Since our life together began making pizzas we enjoy making them at home and making fun things like football shaped cinnamon sticks. Since you can buy the Pillsbury pizza crust in those cute little tubes, making them is a breeze.Easy Football Cinnamon Sticks Recipe | The Bearfoot BakerWhen you order your pizza for the big game, don’t buy a dessert pizza. • Mix the confectioner's sugar and milk in a bowl.

  • Bake at 425° for about 5 minutes. The directions call for more baking time but we didn’t load the dough with sauce, cheese and other toppings so the football cinnamon sticks will bake faster.

  • Mix the confectioner’s sugar and milk in a bowl.
  • Place the icing in a Ziplock bag or a decorating bag.
  • Decorate your football cinnamon sticks any way you like. I tried to make one look like a football but I didn’t like decorating them that way. I wanted the process to be fast like my red Camaro so I chose to drizzle them instead.

I made a little video to show you how fun and easy it is to make this sweet treat. Enjoy!

Football Cinnamon Sticks Recipe | The Bearfoot BakerAfter Alan and I got married he told me to sell that little red Camaro that I worked so hard to buy. He said it was a death trap for me because back in the day I was “Led Foot Lisa” and drove that car faster than I should have. I was a kid and didn’t see the danger in going a little bit too fast. I was lucky Alan was there to help me keep my head on straight. The truth is, I was lucky because making pizza is what brought me the cutest guy in the world.

We are still in love after all these years and we still make pizzas together. I will love him forever, as long as he saves me some of the football cinnamon sticks! 😉

Bear hugs,

Lisa
