How to Make Jellyfish Cookies with Video
A few years ago I made Simple Little Jellyfish Cookies and had fun adding a little airbrush color around the edges. Then, later I made some Girly Bat Cookies and had the idea to combine the two ideas to make these Girly Jelly Fish Cookies because it sounded like fun! If you add polka dots they become even more interesting and fun!
I think we should make a few boy jellyfish cookies with bow ties and a mustache because that would even the playing field. What do you think?

Before we begin, I wanted to share with you how I make a color palette because PicMonkey is amazing! It’s super simple because all you have to do is open the college tab in PicMonkey and download a few images from my Color Inspiration board on Pinterest. Then, add your colors and pick which ones you like. I like to add dots because it shows me how well the colors will match and complement each other. You should try it because it’s a lot of fun.
- Begin by piping three thick lines for the jellyfish cookies legs. Don’t let the icing touch until it has the time (about 10 minutes) to form a crust or the icing will become one large leg.
- While the icing is wet pipe a few polka dots on each leg.
- After the icing has crusted over, pipe a few more legs and let them dry for about 10 minutes.
- Outline the jellyfish cookies head.
- Optional- you can pipe a thick line above the leg or you can skip that part. I’m not sure which way I like it best because I think they’re both cute.
- Flood the jellyfishes head.
- While the icing is wet pipe a few blue polka dots on the top and add the 4mm black pearl eyes.
- Let the cookies dry for about an hour or so.
- Once the cookie has had time to dry, add a drop of royal icing to the back of a royal icing apple blossom flower and place it on the right side of the jellyfishes head.
- Add a drop of royal icing to the center of the flower and add a white Sixlet. The candy will look like a pearl that the sweet little clam cookies made for them.
I love under the sea cookies right now. It makes me want to go on vacation somewhere tropical or at least search the web to find some cute beach themed cookies. The water cookies used here were inspired by JillFCS cookies and the ocean theme friends were inspired by Sweet Sugar Belle. The starfish was mine and you can see the Starfish tutorial here.
It is really simple to add personality and character to your cookies. Adding a royal icing flower can turn a simple jellyfish cookie into a cute little girl jellyfish. Do you have fun ways or tricks of adding character to your cookies? We would love for you to leave a comment and share your tips and tricks with us!
Bear hugs,
Absolutely adorable! I’d love to try these someday!❤️❤️
Like Nike says Christine, “Just do it!” lol
These cookies are so darn cute! Now I want to conquer my fear of “deep water” (sharks live in the stuff) and hit the beach.
To give my cookies a “girly vibe”, I usually just add two or three eyelashes, but I like the flower idea better as it gives the cookies dimension. The white Sixlet is GENIUS… “the candy will look like a pearl that the sweet little clam cookies made for them.”:) (love that) and it, too, gives the cookies another layer of dimension.
PLEASE share how you made the “kelp”. What tip did you use?
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these cookies! GREAT job, Lisa! 🙂
Hi Janis,
Thanks! The kelp is easy. It is made with leaf tip #352. 😉 Super simple!
Hi Lisa, I wish real jelly fish were this cute and friendly. These are really sweet and I love the colors. Great video too!

Lisa- I LOVE all of your videos, tutorials, pictures, etc! You have been such an inspiration for me as I continue to explore cookie and cupcake art. I am a couples therapist and after my daughter asked me to make horse cookies for her birthday party last April, I uncovered a perfect escape for when I get home from work! (Much healthier than chocolate and wine! ) I have made hundreds at this point for friends, teachers, family, neighbors… I made your bear cupcakes for my 2 year old’s birthday party as well as countless other ones I found off your site. Thank you for all of your effort to help others find joy in this creative outlet. Enjoy your summer, hope you make it somewhere tropical and I’ll look forward to your new ideas!

BTW: I would love to see some pictures of your creations! Hint, hint!
Do you make the cookie cutters for your cookies all by yourself?
Hi Steph,
I buy all of my cookie cutters. I only hand cut the cookie dough when I have to. 😉
Hi Steph,
I purchase cookie cutters. I don’t make them but I wish I could. LOL
