How to Make Adorable Ballerina Bear Cookies with a How to Video | The Bearfoot Baker

Ballerina bear cookies have been on my mind for a while but I’m glad I waited before I made them because Sweet Sugarbelle’s Nesting Flower Cookies make this project super simple. Ever since I saw her Bowing Ballerina  Cookies I’ve had the idea to make them Bearfoot Baker style with a bear instead of a cute little girl. Callye was actually inspired by Angelina Ballerina to make her cute little dancer cookies so I thought I would keep the inspiration going and make my favorite animal, the bear.

Let’s Decorate!

How to Make Ballerina Bear Cookies | The Bearfoot Baker

  • You can make the tutu cookies any size you want to make them but due to the size of the bear cookie cutter, the largest flower worked the best.
  • Make a batch of sugar cookie dough and cut out your cookie shapes.
  • Let the cookies cool completely before you begin to decorate them.
  • As the cookies are cooling you can make a batch of royal icing and tint the colors while you wait.

  • Outline the ballerina bear cookies cute little tutu cookies and let the lighter colors of royal icing dry for about 10 minutes. You will use the darker colors of royal icing to add the details to the tutu later.

  • After the outline has dried for a few minutes flood the cookies.
  • Let the royal icing dry completely.
How to Add the Arms:

  • Once the icing has dried place the naked bear cookie on the tutu and use a food-safe marker to make dots where you want the hands and arms to go. You don’t have to do this since you can eyeball it but I found it helps. Without the mark, my poor little ballerina bear cookies arms were really short. She looked more like a T-Rex. Hey, we can make T-Rex ballerina cookies!

  • With the brown royal icing make a dot for each of the bear’s ears.
  • While the brown icing is wet, add a dot of yellow.
  • Place the turkey lacer at the bottom of the ear and drag it halfway to the center of the yellow. Look at the picture below or watch the video at the end to see it in action.
Time to Decorate the Cute Bear Face:

  • Next, flood the head with the brown royal icing and add a black jelly bean for the nose while the brown icing is wet.
  • Now for a fun little trick, I learned from watching this video Jill FCS’s videos on Youtube Channel. Use the turkey lacer and dip it into black royal icing. Then place it on the bear’s face where you want an eye and pull it in a wide ‘u’ shape. This makes a nice thin eye without messing with a paintbrush or markers. Thanks, Jill for showing us how to do this!
  • Repeat for the other eye.
  • Dip the turkey lacer into the black and make a line from the nose to the mouth.

All done!

Inspiration for cookies can be found anywhere. Callye had the idea for bowing ballerinas and the Angelina Ballerina book helped her make cute little Bowing Ballerina Girl Cookies which inspired me to make this set of Ballerina Bear Cookies. This is a perfect example of you can be inspired to make amazing sets of cookies from almost anything.
