Snowman Breath Mints

Do your remember when I shared a Marshmallow Fondant Recipe with you? I told you we were going to so some fun stuff with it. Here is the first of many fondant ideas! These are snowman breath mints and they taste like Altoids.

I heard about this idea from my good friend Deborah aka “Well Kiss My Frosting”  and she found it here. When she told me about making your own Altoid mints I couldn’t believe it. I immediately grabbed my tiniest cutter and make a batch of fondant. I couldn’t wait to get started!

Supplies for Snowman Breath Mints:

Marshmallow Fondant
AmeriColor Food Color Gel of your choice or from here
Small Snowman Cutter
Fondant Rolling Pin
Candy Oil Flavor (I used Cinnamon)
Tylose Powder

First, make a batch of Marshmallow Fondant.

Color it any color you want. This blue is made with a touch of  AmeriColor Royal Blue.

Kneed it  until the color is mixed well.

Then, add Tylose Powder. Follow the directions on the tub. Congratulations! Your fondant just became gumpaste! My friend Deborah told me a few things about Tylose, gumpaste and fondant when she showed me this project. She explained that Tylose will make fondant dry quicker and allows you to roll it thinner so you can make flowers petals because it allows them to dry “Crispy”…. which you may or may not want. It is absolutely perfect for this project. If it starts to dry out add a little Crisco to it.

To me, adding the oil was the tricky part. How much you add depends on how strong you want your mint.  From what I found looking on line, it is about 15 drops per every pound of gumpaste. This is also the exciting part because you can make it as strong or mild as you want.

Now you are ready to roll. Roll out your fondant to about 1/8″ thick and start cutting out your shapes. I use the small cutter like this. If your mints get sticky, sprinkle a little powdered sugar on them. Let them dry for at least 48 hours. It will make them the same consistency as a real breath mint.

Next, find some cute little tins to package them in. I know I will be shopping the after Christmas sales this year for all the tiny tins I can get my hands on.

These will make great teachers gifts. I am going to pass out several of these cute little tins this year with a basket of cookies to people I see everyday such as, the gas station attendant, my mailman, and the bag boy at my grocery store. I can think of several more but, I need to go make some more mints!

Thank you so much Deborah for telling me about this project. You are so sweet and I can’t wait to see you!

Happy Creating,

Lisa
