Photographing Food Improved My Photography

I have always had a passion for photography. I love shooting pictures of wildlife. It is a thrill I can’t explain. I had never taken photography classes until I started making cookies. I bought a digital camera over a year ago and it changed everything. It simplified the learning process because I could see the results instantly. Then, for my blog, I started photographing food. My photography passion grew from wildlife to food in the blink of an eye. The good thing about photographing food is I won’t get attacked by bears while shooing pictures of cookies and cobblers.

Photographing FOODWhen I started blogging, I knew that my photos were not great. They weren’t horrible but, they weren’t going to appear on the cover of a magazine either. I didn’t know that much about styling, props and how to create a certain mood with one picture. I stated looking at other blogs with pictures that I love and studied different styles and looked how the lighting hit the subject.

Photographing FOODI learned a lot but, I continued to search for more ways to improve my photography. I signed up for online classes at Shot Fly Shot and learned how to use my new DSLR Camera.

Then, a blog I followed and loved, Taylor Takes a Taste, wrote an eBook called Photographing FOOD. Since I loved his blog and pictures, I ordered Issue 1. It is full of great tips that I use every time I take a picture now.

All the pictures in this post are from his eBooks. They are fantastic and informative. It is like the inspiration leaps from each page. I want to carry my camera with me everywhere so I don’t miss an opportunity for a great shot.

Photographing FOODI am happy now to say that I have all the issues and I couldn’t be more thrilled with them. I have learned so much about lighting, styling, what to do after you take the shot, composition and what colors will make my baked good pop in my photos. He even has an entire issue dedicated to shooting at night. I love natural light but, it isn’t always possible so this issue is very helpful. The tips that Taylor teaches and shares are priceless. I haven’t mastered all the skills, I am working on it.

These tips are great for bloggers but, the same rules apply if you are taking photos for items to sell on ETSY or EBay.

Photographing FOODAs I ordered the eBooks, I printed them out and placed them in a three ring binder for easy reference.

Photographing FOODI am so grateful to Taylor for writing the photographing food eBooks. I have learned so much. If you are looking for ways to improve your photography, I hope you check out his Photographing Food eBooks. There are 7 total and they are very affordable. You can buy them one at a time or purchase all seven. I am so glad I got them. They help improve my pictures with every click of my camera.
