Simple Reindeer Cookies
Have I told you about my grandson lately? He is a year and a half and the joy of my life! I love hanging out with this kid. I love playing with him and he loves playing with a bouncy ball we found at a local store. Well, the other day I showed him how Nana likes to play. We made Christmas Cookies. You know the cute reindeer cookies that are frozen so all you have to do is place them on a baking sheet. Tripp had a ball and he was so proud of himself.
Well, let me tell you they are cute an all but, have you ever made them yourself? You can combine your favorite roll out cookie recipes you will love the results! And the best part is the kids can totally help you make this icing free! Yes, you heard me right. You can enjoy decorating sugar cookies without the hassle of making icing and your kids won’t know the difference!
You can make these ahead of time and freeze them. Pull them out and bake when the kids are ready.

Begin by making a batch of sugar cookie dough and a batch of gingerbread dough. Here is a tip on how to roll out sugar cookie dough and how to roll out perfect sugar cookies so they don’t spread.
- Cut circles out of the sugar cookie dough.
- Cut a reindeer head out of the center. Don’t smooch it up because you can bake they are delicious.
- Cut a reindeer head out of the gingerbread dough and place it in the sugar cookie.
- Color a little of the sugar cookie dough red. For tips on how to color sugar cookie dough, click here.
- Use the end of the bubble tea straw to cut a nose out of the reindeer nose and drop in the cute little red nose and bake according to your recipe directions. I followed the sugar cookie recipe and baked these for 7 minutes. Oven times may vary so keep an eye on them.
I can’t wait to make my next batch of these because I am going to try to this Peppermint Mocha Cut Out Cookies by Created by Diane with my gingerbread cookie recipe.
Merry Christmas,
I ADORE these!! For some reason I get all into making Christmas animals versus the people. Don’t get me wrong I still have lots of love for Santa but just not quite as much since he doesn’t bring me presents anymore! 😉 I love your work!!! Pure genius!
Oh they are so adorable, love how creative you are!
Wow Lisa,
These are so cute! Your grandson is so lucky to have a talented grandmother like you. Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!
Lisa,
WHAT fantastic cookies! Thanks for this gggggggreat idea and the mix of two doughs too! Brilliant!!!!
Happy Holidays!
Hugs,Patti
Oh my gosh, what a fun idea!
What a wonderful idea – the reindeer are sooo cute!! Can you tell me though, what is a bubble tea straw?
Thank you for sharing!
Hi Cathie,
If you click on the “Bubble tea straw” under the supply list, it will take you to the actual straws on Amazon. They are large sturdy straws that cake decorators use to support a second tier on their cakes. You don’t have to use them for the reindeer cookies. Just find something round that is food safe to cut the noses. 🙂
Adorable cookies, can’t wait to make! What did you use to make the eyes?
Hi Terri,
I used 4 mm black edible pearls for the eyes. You can find them here: http://www.sweetartfactory.com/i_583/Black-Edible-Pearls.htm
I adore these! Just a question – baking time – is it based on the sugar cookie or Ginger bread cookie? (Using the recipes you provided)
Hi Chantal,
The circle cookie is the sugar cookies and the reindeer are the gingerbread cookies. You could use the sugar cookie recipe and add a little food gel color to the reindeer dough so you don’t have to mix two batches of dough. 😉
I used the sugar cookie baking time. They took about 7 minutes but oven times may vary so keep an eye on them. 😉
Hi Lisa
I just listened to your podcast #21, aka the  “compost” podcast. (For those of you who’d like to find out about the “compost” in podcast #21, listen to “The Power of a Cookie” featuring Lisa’s grandchildren!)
These cookies are adorable and it’s impressive how the two cookie doughs  melded together without distorting.Â
Your resource for the Reindeer cookie cutter no longer carries that cutter set. Do you remember the name of the manufacturer for the cutters so that I may search for them?
Thanking you for all you do!
Linda
Hi Linda,
I think that reindeer is really cute. I’m proud that Tripp is going to make it for Santa! And Brooke will make him a pink kitty cat cookie. They’re so funny!
