Royal Icing Transfers-Stocking Up
The last few days have been busy for our local meteorologists trying to predict what kind of weather we were going to have today. The gorgeous Smoky Mountains make it difficult to always see what’s coming. One thing that all three local stations agreed on was it was going to be cold and snowy. Boy did they get it right!
I am sitting here looking out my kitchen window at my snow covered yard wondering when the snow and ice will allow me to leave my house. Yep. I am snowed in. Living in the mountains presents a bit of a problem in the winter because we are at a higher elevation which means thing freeze and snow will stick around for a few days. I don’t even want to take a chance driving to the store because if you make one wrong move, you could end up at the bottom of a mountain or in a creek like we did last year. So today, I will stay home in my warm kitchen and stock up on royal icing transfers. Why not make cookies you ask? Well, I am out of flour. I didn’t stock up.
I may not have flour but, I can make some royal icing flours. But why stop there? I am going to make some royal icing noses, eyes and a few other cute royal icing transfers so I can stock up. I am out of everything.
I keep wondering how I could run out of eyes during the holidays. I am not going to let it happen again. I will be prepared from this day forward. I keep imagining the scene in “Gone with the Wind” where Scarlett O’Hara says she will never go hungry again. Here, it is this one:
This is me saying, “I will never run out of royal icing transfers again!” Only I am not in a field because I am wrapped in a blanket with gloves with no finger tips because I cut them off so I could type and stay warm. And I am not hungry, I just need royal icing transfer eyes. Hehehehehe.

If you haven’t made royal icing ribbon roses you need to. They are great for Valentine’s Day cookies. If you need a tutorial on how to make them, click here.
It feels so good to have royal icing transfers again. I just hope the snow and ice melt so I can go to the store tomorrow for more flour. If not, I will see what other royal icing transfers I can make.
PS- I didn’t make any royal icing templates during Christmas. I wanted to but, time got away from me. I will start making them for you again soon.

Bear hugs,
Well, I am glad you are the royal icing transfer QUEEN because that would be sad to run out of flour when you are snowed in! You are very resourceful, Lisa:) I got an airbrush for Christmas and will be checking out all of your pointers today. Stay warm and cozy!
Great idea! It’s freezing over here in New Jersey as well. Thanks for the inspiration. Keep warm.
I am happy that you are warm, safe and busy! You can never have too many eyeballs or roses 😉
I love this. We are currently at -4 (feels like -25 the weather channel says) and I am trying to wrestle the tree down and tuck I tback up my attic…which is so cold too. But in between I keep checking Facebook and I saw this link posted and I love visiting your page and looking at your talent. Im smiling here. I think my face is frozen, but it feels like a smile. Icing on!
I love making RI transfers. I find the repetitive motions really calming. 🙂 I’m glad you’re stay and warm. The lowest temp I’ve experienced was 19 deg F. I can’t imagine how cold it must feel where you are!
Hi Lisa,
Love the flowers. Going to try making them.
I love to be ready for what ever comes my way and these are just perfect! In fact, while I was out shopping I saw some royal icing eyes with long eyelashes and immediately thought of you – Lisa must make these!! Stay warm my friend, I can only imagine how beautiful it must be in the mountains!
Your stash of royal icing goodies is fab!!!!!!! Thanks for the inspiration.
Hugs,Patti
I double dog dare you to glue some of those eyes on the roses! Everything looks cuter with eyes. Not that your roses aren’t already adorable!
I love the IDEA of being snowed in, but I think I would like the reality much less 😉 Despite frigid temperatures for our area (12 degrees! Yikes!), no precipitation, so no snow, which makes me a very sad lady. Not that I would be going out in it with a newborn, but I just want to look at it 🙂 Be careful out there, if you need to venture out! I remember the pics from last year!
I’m so sorry to hear you have been stuck inside the house! I feel guilty that our temps have been hovering around 70 degrees until yesterday…a bit cooler. Trust me, I will pay for it come summertime!
Love your ribbon roses. This is one that I just can’t get the hang of. I guess it is the “walking and chewing gum” at the same time syndrome….only for this, it is turning the nail and squeezing icing at the same time, ugghhhh! Of course yours are perfectly executed…great job as always and thank you for sharing the tutorial!
Thanks for all the great ideas for royal icing transfers. Could you please do a bow or ribbon transfer tutorial? I was thinking about using them for Easter cookies (to put them on a lamb’s or bunny’s neck, on a basket of flowers, etc.)!! Thanks so much for all your great informative posts!!
Sure Kathy! I will make you some bows soon. 🙂
I love your work!!! Tell me how you get your royal icing to look shiny?
Hi Kristine,
I always had a dull looking finish to my cookies until I read a post by Sweet Sugar Belle. She suggested drying the cookies with a fan and it really changed how my cookies looked when dry. They always have a nice shine thanks to her tip. You can read her post here: http://www.sweetsugarbelle.com/2011/04/my-1-fan-wfmw/
