Simple Snowman Cookies

Hi everybody! I spent the day playing outside with my grandson yesterday because it was over sixty degrees here. Yep. You heard me, sixty! I love winter and I look forward to doing things like playing in the snow, building snowmen, and eating winter foods like chili sprinkled with cheese. Since it is sixty degrees in the middle of January, I guess I have to settle for making simple snowman cookies instead of bundling up and going outside to make a real snowman.

Making simple snowman cookies can be almost as fun as building a real one outside in the beautiful white snow while you are all bundled up wearing your favorite mittens and your cute snow boots. Okay, maybe the cookie version is not that fun but, I did have fun making these guys and I think you will too.

Let’s do this:

  • Begin by turning the skull cookies upside down and outline and flood with the white icing.
  • While the icing is wet, add the royal icing nose and the pearl eyes and buttons.
  • Let the cookies dry overnight.

  • Next, paint the outline of the scarf and the arms with a touch of brown food gel color mixed with a touch of water.
  • Then, paint the scarf with a mixture of green food gel color and a little water.

  • Just a little tip, when you paint the scarf green, you may erase some of the brown lines that you drew. It’s alright because you can add the details back after the green is applied.

  • Add the little fringes at the bottom.
  • Add the dry pink petal dust to the cheeks with a cotton swab and let the food gel dry for a few hours.

The thing I like most about tutorials like this one is the basic steps can be applied to almost any snowman cookie and, thanks to the royal icing transfers I only used one color of icing so decorating them was really fast. I think next time I will add a little shading and maybe paint a vest or, I can keep it simple and use different colors for the scarves. I have to go now because I am going to do a snow dance. Fingers crossed that I see some white stuff this season.

The other snowman in the set was made with this pumpkin head cutter by Wilton.
