Outer Space Cookies
I am so happy! We have power after an ice storm knocked it out earlier this week and having power means I took a shower after 3 days with no hot water. The shower was glorious! I can’t remember the last time I wanted to shower that badly. I think it was the last time a storm knocked out the power.
When the local meteorologists started reporting a winter storm we started getting prepared. We bought food with a long shelf life, bottled water and gathered all of our back up heaters and flashlights. We even took extra hay to the barn for the animals just in case we wouldn’t be able to drive the truck on the ice. We were totally ready. Prepared for almost anything. The one thing I forgot was how far away the barn is from my house. It is about 3/4 of a mile or so and my husband and I had to walk up and down an icy hill twice a day to feed the goats and donkey. We also had to “break up the water” that was frozen so they could have fresh drinking. They were very happy to see us and made all kinds of animal noises when they saw us.
As I was walking (or trying to walk) down the icy hill with as much grace as I could manage, I took pictures with my phone because I started to feel like I was in a scary movie about the earth being frozen like it was the end of time or something. There are 350 acres here and the only other human I saw was my husband. I felt as if I was on another planet so I thought I would share these outer space cookies I made a few weeks ago. Seemed appropriate!

- Draw the pattern on the cookie with a food safe marker.
- Then, outline with the white icing.
- Flood the outer part of the helmet and the boots.
- Let it dry for about 20 minutes.
- Next, flood the shirt and let it dry 20 minutes.
- Flood the gloves with the white icing and let it dry overnight.
- Then, flood the helmet with the gray icing and add a white line for the highlight.
- Flood the trim on the space suit with the orange-ish icing.
- This next step is optional. Once the icing is dry, outline the space suite with the white and let it dry.
- Spread some of the darker gray icing on a round cookie and let it dry for about 20 minutes.
- Outline the moon with the lighter gray icing and add a few circles to look like craters.
- Flood the moon with the lighter gray icing and while the gray is wet, add some white lines.
- Use a toothpick or a BooBoo Stick to swirl the two colors.
- Let the cookie dry overnight.
Here are some of the icy pictures I was taking while trying not to fall down the hill. I love how the branches shine.
Look at all that ice. Wouldn’t you feel like you were on another planet?
I think I need to bundle up and watch a few episodes of the tv show “Lost in Space” to remind me that even though the ice is still covering the roads, I will be able to get out in a few days. And when I do, I am going to get a pizza!

Bear hugs,
The trees are gorgeous, but I’m sure it didn’t feel that way when walking through them out to the barn. I’m glad your power has been restored and hope you are able to get that pizza soon! I love the cookies, especially the ones that look like the moon. Stay warm.
Thanks Beth! The tress were beautiful! Everything is melting today and I am happy and a little sad. I think the snow makes everything pretty.
Those moon cookies are incredible! I love the depth on them. Glad you guys are warm again, it sounds like you had quite the adventure 😉
Thanks Jessica! I look at life as an adventure. Make any and every situation FUN!

Lisa, Even though it sounds freezing in your neck of the woods, I think I would love it on your land. 🙂 I’m glad you got your power back on!
The space cookies are cute and perfect for your icy situation … looks like you live on another planet! I assume that the astronaut must have attended UT, but his orange “T” is upside down, lol 🙂
You may appreciate this … my family in Rutledge always says that they will always live close enough to town … for pizza delivery … bet they couldn’t get a pizza delivered recently 🙂
