Outer Space Cookies

I am so happy! We have power after an ice storm knocked it out earlier this week and having power means I took a shower after 3 days with no hot water. The shower was glorious! I can’t remember the last time I wanted to shower that badly. I think it was the last time a storm knocked out the power.

When the local meteorologists started reporting a winter storm we started getting prepared. We bought food with a long shelf life, bottled water and gathered all of our back up heaters and flashlights. We even took extra hay to the barn for the animals just in case we wouldn’t be able to drive the truck on the ice. We were totally ready. Prepared for almost anything. The one thing I forgot was how far away the barn is from my house. It is about 3/4 of a mile or so and my husband and I had to walk up and down an icy hill twice a day to feed the goats and donkey. We also had to “break up the water” that was frozen so they could have fresh drinking. They were very happy to see us and made all kinds of animal noises when they saw us.

As I was walking (or trying to walk) down the icy hill with as much grace as I could manage, I took pictures with my phone because I started to feel like I was in a scary movie about the earth being frozen like it was the end of time or something. There are 350 acres here and the only other human I saw was my husband. I felt as if I was on another planet so I thought I would share these outer space cookies I made a few weeks ago. Seemed appropriate!

And when I do, I am going to get a pizza!
