Red Bird in the Snow
If you follow this blog then you probably know that I am a bit of a snow lover. I live for it every winter and try to get a picture of a red bird in the snow every season. Several times a week I go outside and stand on the front porch to see if the mother nature is going to bring me a blanket of the beautiful white powder that is made up of flakes that are as different and unique as we are. Well, it happened last week, but I got more than I bargained for. There was an ice storm that hit first and knocked out power and caused damage around the area. After several days of being iced in our homes, the power was restored thanks to all the hard work from the amazing local utility workers. But Mother Nature wasn’t done with winter yet.
Want to take a little walk around camp with me instead of making cookies?
Before the ice had a chance to melt, it snowed and we got about 4 inches of the beautiful white stuff that covered the ice and made things look pretty. After being stuck at home for several days the snow and ice melted enough on the roads (not really but we had to get supplies) that allowed us to go to the store to get food to prepare for the next storm that was heading our way Wednesday night. The local news channels predicted we would get 3″-6″ more inches through the night and they were right. We now have 12″ of snow and let me tell you something, it is one of the most beautiful snows I have ever seen. So beautiful in fact I wanted to share some of the pictures I took over the last 2 weeks.
Does this make you want to put on a jacket even though you are sitting in your warm house right now or does it make you break out into a chorus of ‘Let it Go’ from the movie Frozen?
Here are some of my little friends that helped entertain me during the storms. They are so sweet. I love this picture of the lodge. Imagine being in there with all of our cookie friends holding hot cocoa sitting by fireplace laughing so hard we forget about the 12″ of snow outside. Sounds like a perfect day to me!
Every time the lake freezes over I want to walk on it. I know, I know it is not smart, but I can’t help thinking about it.
I want to move all of my things into this lake house just because of the view. It is always gorgeous, but today the snow makes it stunning.
The weather has made the last two weeks interesting and even though it was a bit challenging at times I have enjoyed every minute of it. Being alone with my hubby in a cabin in the woods, watching the snow fall, drinking hot chocolate by the heater to stay warm has been exciting. But one of the things I have enjoyed the most is feeding my little feathered friends. As a matter of fact, since I began typing this post this morning, it has begun to snow again and the birds outside eating as fast as they can. I hope the roads clear up soon so I can buy them more food.

Beautiful pictures!
Gorgeous photos ! But by this time of year I’m so ready for Spring and sunshine !!
Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures. Absolutely amazing setting.
Hello Lisa…..OMG…..absolutely beautiful pictures…..that red bird just pops in the white background. Is this where you live? I find snow very peaceful, not fun when you need to get supplies, but lovely to look at. I was looking at the horse fields near my son’s school the other morning and everything was white….so pretty. Enjoy the snow.
Hi Lisa, Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures. I live in Florida, so none of the “white stuff” for us. I was with my family in Tennessee in early January and had hoped to meet you then but I ended up being ill most of our trip. Maybe we can meet when I get up that way again.
Although the weather was considerably colder than it is here in Florida, there was very little snow then.
Thank you for sharing your passions with us!

Oh my gosh, it’s like a fairy tale! What a perfect backdrop for baking and decorating cookies. Your animal friends are adorable, and the red bird is so striking!
We have a birdbath turned bird feeder in our backyard and I love it! One of the blue jays came right up by my window the other day and I was talking to it (Yes, I’m crazy:))and he was cocking his head. I think he wanted to tell me, “You ran out of birdseed, please go get some more”. I went and bought some more and all the birds are happy again (me too)! 🙂
Thanks for sharing the gorgeousness!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful photos! I hope the weather is warming up a little … especially for the birds waiting for food 😉
You do have a beautiful view and I can only imagine how gorgeous it is in real life full of snow. My daughter loves the snow and this would be a dream come true for her!
Hi Lisa, I’ve just stumbled across your wonderful site while researching cookie decorating, and am glad I have incidentally found this page! I’m currently at work, ‘working hard’ as you can see, and your fabulous snaps take me off to magical lands to dream of. Wonderful! Thanks for posting. Sending you warm wishes from a currently warmish but often drizzly London (where the closest we have to snow in winter is muddy frozen sludge we all slip on, no matter the footwear) Aggie x
Hi Aggie,
Thanks for sharing your work day with me! 😉 I wish I could box up a snowman and mail it to you, but by the time it would arrive it will be a puddle of not so frozen cuteness! lol
Anyway, thanks for hanging out with me!
