Simple Fishing Cookies
Are you looking for something fun to do with the kids? Well, since it is the middle of winter and its too cold to play outside for very long, make some fishing cookies. They are easy to make and would be a great indoor activity that will remind them how fun it is playing in the warm sun. They will love it!
Did I mention how easy they are to make? Just checking because they are easy.
Supplies for Fishing Cookies:
(may contain affiliate links)
- Fish Cookie Cutter– this isn’t the same cookie cutter I used to make the cookies because I made them so long ago they don’t make that cutter anymore. This Ann Clark cutter will work and so will many others.
- Green 15 Second Icing
- Yellow 15 Second Icing
- Black Sixlet for the eye
- Toothpick or Turkey Lacer -A turkey lacer is one of my favorite tools ever!
Outline and Flood:
- Begin by outlining the body of the fish with the green icing. Don’t outline the fins yet because we’ll do that in a few minutes.
- Next, add a few yellow royal icing lines on the fish while the gree icing one the body is wet.
- Use the turkey lacer, a BooBoo Stick, or a toothpick to drag through the icing to make scales. This is called a wet on wet technique.
- Add the Sixlet eye while the icing is wet and let the body dry for about 20 minutes.
- Next, outline and flood the fins.
Fishing Bobbers:
Supplies for the Fishing Bobbers:
- Ornament Cookie Cutter
- Red Icing
- White Icing
- Food Safe Marker
- Use the food safe marker to draw the pattern on the ornament.
- Next, outline and flood the top of the ornament with the white icing. Let it dry overnight.
- Outline and flood the base of the ornament with the red icing.
Cute Little Fish Cookies:
Remember at the beginning of this post when I told you these were simple cookies to make? I wasn’t kidding, was I? They are very easy and dad’s and boys alike will love them. I hope between now and Father’s Day I will be able to find a vintage tackle box to use to pack them in. I think my dad will love it!
Bear hugs,
I’m not much for fishin’, but I’ll take your fishing cookies anyday! The ornament cutter for the float … brilliant!
For my brother in law who loves fishing, these would be perfect, I’ll have to remember this set for his next birthday!
I made cookies inspired by this recipe for a 7-year-old’s fishing birthday party. Since they’re for a little girl, I went with more whimsical colors and they turned out super cute! This was only my second time decorating with royal icing so this really is beginner-friendly (although I’m sure it took me way longer). I probably shouldn’t admit this but, for the sake of amateur bakers like me, I just use store-bought cookie dough with extra flour, Thanks so much for the inspiration and easy-to-follow instructions! I’d share photos of mine if I could figure out how 🙂

I never would have thought of making them in girl colors! That is so smart! Did you post a picture on any of your social media sites? I’d love to see them!
How much are the fish cookies per dozen? Do they come wrapped? Do you personalize? How mush is shipping? How long do you need to place and ship an order?
Hi Sally,
I don’t sell cookies. I enjoy showing how to make them so everyone can make them at home.
Lisa not sure if you will see this but what cutter was used for the fishing pole CookieÂ
This is the fishing pole cookie cutter I used: https://amzn.to/2PDKv0g. I hope this helps!
