How to Make Cloud Cookies that Actually Rain
I know you have heard that April Showers bring May flowers. That is a very true statement. I know we all like puppies, bubbles and sunshine but, without rain, there would not be any flowers, trees or cute little cloud cookies that actually rain sprinkles. What? You have never seen cloud cookies that actually rain sprinkles? Let’s change that right now!
I have been trying to make these cookies for a month now but things keep happening around here. Summer camp started about three weeks ago and our lives got really busy. Busy in a good way. There are little kiddos running around fishing, swimming and playing soccer every where. It is glorious except when it rains. It is no fun being at summer camp and stuck playing games inside. They are fun games but we need to be out in the sun running and using our energy to find critters in the creek. So that little evil rain cloud in the picture above needs to think about the children and only rain at night while they are sleeping.
Supplies for Cloud Cookies that Actually Rain:
Cloud Cookie Cutter- The small cloud cutter in this tutorial is from Whisked Away Cutters and can be found here. The large cloud is a flower cutter cut in half.
White 15 Second Icing
4mm Black Edible Pearls
Pink Airbrush Color– You can use pink icing or pink petal dust if you don’t have an airbrush gun.
Homemade Blue Sprinkles-I made sky blue and a lighter blue for the clouds but you can use store bought sprinkles if you don’t feel like making them.
Food Safe Marker for the Mouth
I also want to mention that these cookies were inspired by My Cupcake Addiction Unicorn Cookies. They made me laugh out loud!
- Use a cloud or flower cutter to cut shapes out of the cookie dough.
- If you use a flower cutter, cut it in half.
- Next, use a heart, circle or tear top shape to cut the center out of one of the clouds.
- Make sure to cut the edge also.
- When you transfer the cloud cookie shape to the baking sheet it may stretch a little.
- Use the flower cutter to make it as close to the original shape as possible.
- You will need three cookies per cloud.
- Once you bake the cookies, lay them out so you can start assembling them.
- Use the icing as glue.
- Glue the center cookie to the back cookie.
- Before you move on, add the sprinkles to make sure the hole is the right size so the sprinkles will fall out of the cloud when you give it a shake. If the sprinkles don’t come out correctly, you can take the center cloud off and trim the hole with the a serrated knife. Then glue it back on with the icing. If it breaks, just piece it together and glue it in place.
- Add the top cookie but don’t glue it down yet. Give it a shake and watch it rain.
Don’t glue the tops on yet, we need to decorate them first.
Outline the clouds with the white icing.
Flood the cute little cloud cookies with the white icing and add the 4mm beads for the eyes. Let it dry for a few hours.
Next airbrush the cheeks with pink airbrush color.
To make things easy for you , here is a video so you can see how easy it is to make your own cloud cookies that actually rain. I hope you stick around to see the end. It is my favorite part.
I hope you have a little rain this summer so you can have beautiful flowers, strong trees and a few puddles to jump in. Now go play like a kid!

Bear hugs,
This is such a cute idea! Can’t wait to try it!!
They are fun cookies. If you make the opening at the bottom big enough, the kids can refill them. LOL
I think these may be my favorite cookie of yours(at least until the next one)! I am in love with them! We are experiencing a SERIOUS drought here on the central coast, so I NEED to make these cookies; maybe they will bring us luck. I also love the adorable surprise ending of your video! ☁️
Awe! Thanks Sue!
If you want some rain, I will send you a few buckets full. We haven’t had a lot but when it rains, it pours.
I will be happy to share! LOL 😉
Lisa, what an awesome idea!! I love the video. The end with the dancing cloud raining sprinkles is so darn cute. Pinned and shared!
Now this is my kind of rain. I hate cloudy days but these little sweets would make any dreary day bright and cheerful. They are totally unique and so much fun.
how cute!
You are so freaking clever! Great tutorial!
So adorable and clever! I love these!
Oh my, what a cute little dancing rain cloud, I loved the end of the video and love love love these cookies!
I know this is an old post, but due to me falling violently ill with a tummy virus, I am laying in bed watching all your videos to pass the time LOL
My question is this: Do you have any tips on how to keep the sprinkles from falling out when packaging them for a party/event? I’m sure they can be filled by the kids, before eating and playing with them, but I love the “surprise ” effect of the kids not knowing that these cute little clouds actually rain sprinkles!!!
Any ideas or tips from anyone would be greatly appreciated!
As soon as this tummy bug decides to vacate the premises of my body, these are the very first thing on my list!!!!
I love these so much!!!!???
These would be great as gender reveal cookies ?
