Peppermint Bark for Christmas

Simple Peppermint Bark Recipe for Christmas | The Bearfoot Baker

Peppermint Bark is one of my favorite go to treats for holiday baking because it is quick, simple and the layers are beautiful. If you have ever decorated sugar cookies you know that there are a lot of steps involved in making them. You bake the cookies, make the icing, outline, flood and wait for the icing to dry. I love decorating cookies but sometimes you need to make something really fast and that is where the peppermint bark comes in handy. You can make a batch in no time and have an edible gift for several people. Do you see why it’s my go to holiday treat?Peppermint Bark | The Bearfoot BakerBaking supplies have come a long way in the past few years. I picked up the Merry Christmas Silicone tray at my local Wal-Mart a few weeks ago because I knew it would really make the peppermint bark even more special with the cute little messages on them.

Supplies for Peppermint Bark:

Sweet Creations Christmas Brittle Bark Silicone Chocolate Mold
Snowflake Silicone Mold
1 1/2 cup of semisweet chocolate
1 1/2 cup of white chocolate
10 candy canes crushed
Optional-1/2 teaspoon of vegetable oil for the semisweet and 1/2 tsp for the white chocolate to help the chocolate melt smoothly

  • Begin by crushing the candy canes. Place them in a Ziploc bag and use a rolling pin to smash them into little pieces. You can also use a food processor, but it will chop the candy canes into dust if you aren’t careful. Go slow and use the “pulse” button.
  • Next, place the semisweet and white chocolate in a microwave safe bowls.
  • Microwave each chocolate for 30 seconds at a time stirring well to help the chocolate melt evenly.

  • Once the chocolate is melted, pour the semisweet chocolate into the bottom of your mold and spread it out evenly.
  • Be careful not to get the chocolate on the sides of the mold because the edges of the peppermint bark won’t look as clean if the chocolate is all over the side of your mold.

  • An offset spatula works really well to help spread the chocolate evenly.
  • Let the semisweet chocolate sit for a couple of minutes before adding the white chocolate.

  • Once the chocolate is nice and even and set up for a few minutes, pour the white chocolate on top of it and spread it out with a clean offset spatula.
  • If you want a marbled affect, use a knife or toothpick to drag through both chocolates until you achieve the affect you are looking for.

  • While the white chocolate is still melted, add the crushed peppermint to the top. You can add a little or a lot depending on how much you like candy canes.

Peppermint Bark | The Bearfoot BakerNow that the peppermint bark is done I can pack it up and start passing it out to a few people on my Christmas list. I wish all baked gifts were this easy to make. Speaking of baked gifts, you should follow my Pinterest Baked Gifts Board for more ideas. I am addicted to Pinterest so I add new things everyday. There are a million baked gift ideas and I intend to pin them all!

If there is someone on your list that has been a bit naughty, you can save the peppermint bark for someone else and give the naughty boys and girls a slice of this Grinch cake instead. Who knows, it might help their heart grow a bit.

Bear hugs,
