Marshmallow Snowmen

I don’t know about you guys but ever since that chubby little groundhog said spring will arrive in 6 weeks, it seems like there has been a little snow in our forecast. Not so much that we can build a snowman or anything but snow nonetheless. Spring or no spring it’s still winter and we need to build a few snowman before all the spring flowers start to bloom. If you don’t have enough snow outside, don’t worry. We can make simple fun marshmallow snowmen in our warm kitchens without going out in the cold frigid air. Simple Marshmallow Snowmen | The Bearfoot Baker

I know I say this a lot but this is another great project for the kids. This cute little guy is held together by melted chocolate and pretzel sticks so the kiddos can go crazy and build as many as they like!

Supplies for Marshmallow Snowmen:

2 Large Campfire Marshmallows
1 Regular Size Marshmallow
2 Royal Icing Mittens
1 Royal Icing Hat
1 Royal Icing Carrot Nose
4 Pretzel Sticks
Melted White Chocolate
Black Food Safe Marker

  • Before you begin this project, you will need to make the royal icing mittens, hats and carrot noses several days before you make the marshmallow snowmen. They will need to dry for a few days before you can build a snowmen in your kitchen.
  • Making royal icing transfers is a great way to use leftover icing and you will build up a supply of simple candy decorations you can use on cookies, Oreos, cupcakes, cakes and marshmallows. I have a cabinet full of different patterns, shapes, colors and sizes. By far these are one of my favorite decorating tools. If you don’t have time to make them you can always purchase different shapes and sizes at cake supply stores, Wal-Mart, craft stores or online. Wilton had a great selection.

  • Once you have made the royal icing transfers and they have dried completely, you can start building the snowmen.
  • Melt a little white chocolate by following the directions for melting chocolate on the package. I melted mine in a microwave safe bowl in 30 second intervals stirring in between.
  • For each marshmallow snowmen, lay out two mittens, one hat, one carrot nose 4 pretzel sticks, 1 regular sized marshmallow and 2 large campfire marshmallows.

  • Glue a pretzel stick to the back of each mitten with the melted white chocolate and let them dry. You may have to lean the pretzel sticks on something (like the side of the baking sheet) so they will dry in place.

  • Glue the carrot nose and the hats onto the regular sized marshmallows and let them dry. It may take up to 20 minutes.
  • While the mittens and heads are drying, dip the end of a pretzel stick into the melted chocolate and insert it into one of the large marshmallows. If your marshmallows are wonky and wont stand up, roll them in between your hands to reshape them.
  • Dip the top of the same pretzel into the melted chocolate and add the second marshmallow.
  • Dip another pretzel stick into the melted chocolate and add it to the top of the marshmallow so you can attach the head once the hats and noses have dried.

  • Marshmallows go stale really fast so you can store the assembled bodies in a cookie jar or an airtight container until you are ready to assemble them.
  • Once you are ready to assemble them, dip the pretzel for the head into the melted chocolate and add the head to the body.

  • Insert the arm into the marshmallow body by using the chocolate as glue to hold it in place.

Wouldn’t these guys make a cute little gift with some hot chocolate for a teacher or co-worker? You can even add the noses, hats and mittens to some muddy buddy or puppy chow recipes.Marshmallow Snowmen with Royal Icing Transfers The Bearfoot BakerStay warm until spring arrives and be sure to build a few marshmallow snowmen in the meantime!
