How to Make Star Trek Cookies with a Video
I want to tell you a little story about last week because I fell asleep on a plane in Tennessee and woke up in Texas. Don’t worry, Texas was my destination. A friend needed help with a really fun cookie project. I don’t want to give you the details of the project yet, but I will very soon in a fun cookie way.
Anyway, while I was in Texas we had a chance to go see the new Star Trek movie and it was really good. As a matter of fact, it is my favorite Star Trek movie to date because it was intense, funny at times, and entertaining all the way around. The best part is it inspired these cookies.
I bet you’re wondering what cutter was used to make these Star Trek cookies. Well, I can help you out with that information. They’re made with a Double Popsicle Cookie Cutter from Whisked Away Cutters but she has two different double popsicle cutters. They’re almost the same so be sure you get the one with a stick area. Flip the cutter upside down so your little characters will be easy to make.

Star Trek Video:
I seriously love these cookies and never dreamed of using a double popsicle cutter to make them. I love it when that happens, don’t you?
Bake the Cookies:
- Begin by making a batch of sugar cookie dough and cut out your shapes.
- Trace the cookie cutter onto a piece of paper and cut it out so you will have a template.
- Draw a line at the top of the head for the hair, a line for the face, and a line at the bottom of the shirt to separate the shirt and pants.
- Cut off the pants and the hair.
- Next, draw and trim the line at the neck but don’t cut it off completely. Leaving it attached at one side will allow you to fold over the pattern and trace it onto the cookie so all of your cookies will have the same pattern on them.
Outline and Flood:
- Outline and flood Spock’s hair and pants area with the black icing and let the icing dry completely.
- Next, outline and flood the shirt area with the blue royal icing and let it dry for about an hour.
Add the Face:
- Use the flesh-colored royal icing to make two ears and let them dry for about 10 minutes until the top of the icing crusts over.
- If you want to see it done a bit differently you can watch the video so you can see how to do the face and ears in one step.
- Outline and flood the face with the flesh-colored icing and use the turkey lacer to smooth it out.
- Add the 4mm Black Pearl Dragees for the eyes while the icing is wet and use the turkey lacer to gently move them into place.
Finishing Details:
- Add the sideburns with the black icing. I thought it looked a little weird so I added a second layer over all of the hair. I know it may seem weird but it worked.
- Add a drop of black royal icing to the shirt and use a turkey lacer to make the Star Trek Delta Symbol. It looks like a wonky triangle.
- Pipe a line between the pants and the shirt and an additional line between the top of the shirt and the face.
- All done! To make the other characters just change up the colors and leave off the Vulcan ears.
Star Trek Cookies:
Seeing the new Star Trek movie with my friend in Texas was pretty amazing and almost as fun as the project, I got to work on while I was there. When one of your best friends lives several states away you don’t get to do things like watch movies or go out to eat together and it’s kind of sad. But on the rare occasion when you do get to spend time together you not only watching a movie or eating out, you are making memories that will last a lifetime. I owe all the thanks to cookie decorating because decorating has helped me make friends all over the world! Who knew sugar could change your life and help you make friends?
Just in case you want another Star Trek Cookie Tutorial here is how you can learn to Make Star Trek Stick Cookies.
Bear hugs,
I love them!!! And as much as I love your videos, I also like that you add the narrative because it gives so much information. Between your step-by-step directions and your video, you cover all the bases! Glad you enjoyed our great state of Texas!
Awe thanks Kathy! I’m glad to hear I squeeze all the info you need into the videos and tutorials. Its great feedback that you like it that way. I’ll keep it up since it helps cover the tutorial from all angles. 😉
I loved Texas Kathy!! I loved working and hanging out with my friend and her amazing family. I also got to see prairie dogs and a couple of roadrunners. Add a Star Wars movie and it couldn’t have been better!!
PS-The food was amazing!!
I look forward to your posts–keep them coming! Texas is special and I do love the food! My daughter and her family vacationed in Tennessee last month and they loved it too. So many wonderful places in this land of ours.
You have no idea the smile that you just put on my face in seeing these! You are just so very clever to use that cutter in this way and these cookies could not be any cuter! I could not love them any more than I do! Thank you so much for the link too! These really are as cute as cute can be!
Thanks for the amazing cutters Tracy! I have a few more blue babies sitting here ready to be decorated soon. I hope you’ll like those too! 😉
Love your Spock cookie. Sooo adorable. I’m not into Star Trek, but I MUST make these cookies….and who knows….maybe they will change how I feel about Star Trek in general! 🙂
Spock just might grow on you Janis so be warned! If you see the movie I’m willing to make a bet you’ll love him by the time the movie ends! LOL
Love these as always. I could tell by the info (prairie dogs) you were not in the DFW area, but if and when you are in my area let me know. Would love to meet over coffee.
Hi Brenda! Actually I was in the DFW area twice. We traveled there and I loved it. Next time I visit I will yell at you. I’d love to meet for coffee and maybe a cookie. 😉
Love these cookies!!! I’m wondering what size cookie cutter you used? The supplier has several sizes of the double popsicle and I’m curious what you found to be the best size for these cookies? Thank you!
Hi Marian,
I made them with the 3″ x 2″ cutter, but size really isn’t important. It will look great with any of the sizes Tracy offers at Whisked Away Cutters. I’d love to see your cookies when you make them. 😉
I will pay you whatever you want to make me a dozen of each…..seriously…..I will pay! I am on FB.
These are so cute! I do have a question, Do you use the same consistency of royal icing for outlining and flooding? If you do use 2 different consistencies, how do you match the color? Thank you.
Hi Lynn,
Sometimes I use 15-Second consistency and sometimes I use an outline and a flood consistency.
If I use an outline and flood consistency I put enough royal icing in a bowl to make both, add color, and then remove some for an outline consistency.
Then, I thin the rest for the flood outline so they will be the exact same color.
This is a really good question! Thanks for asking!
