Let’s Decorate:

  • Find a heart-shaped cookie cutter you like, make some cookie dough, and bake some cookies.
  • Make a batch of royal icing and mix your favorite colors. The only color you really need is a cookie color for the edges of the hearts. I choose Wilton Gold and I think it worked well. You can also use AmeriColor Ivory or any other food gel color that is a tan or cream color.
  • Mix it up and make the consistency you like. For this cookie, I used an outline and a flood, but most people like a 10-15 second consistency icing. You do you and make whatever works for you.
  • Now outline the heart with a squiggly line and then pipe a straightish heart-shaped line on the inside of that.

  • Next, fill the area with the flood consistency royal icing.
  • Use a turkey lacer, 2-1 Tool, or a Thingamagenie to smooth out the icing and to pop any air bubbles you see.
  • Let it dry for 20-30 minutes.
Time to Airbrush:

  • Once the icing has dried and formed a crust on the surface it’s time to airbrush. This cookie has The Cookie Countess Totally Brown Airbrush Gel color and I really like it. It will make you heart cookies with cute little faces look like they are perfectly baked.
  • You can airbrush the inside of the heart and around the edge.
What Color Do You Want to Flood Your Cookies?

  • Pick your favorite color of royal icing and flood the inside of the heart.
  • While the royal icing is wet you can add some candy eyes, sprinkles, or cute little hearts. Have fun with it!
Add the Eyes:

  • Here is a quick tip for you. If you don’t have time to make your own candy eyes you can purchase some Wilton candy eyes. If you don’t like the dots on them you can flip them over and use the white side of the eyes. Then you can add a black dot and make super simple candy eyes without having to wait on them to dry. I love this quick tip!
  • After you add the dots to the eyes let the cookies dry completely.
Food-Safe Pen:

  • It’s time to make the cute little face. Grab a food-safe pen and have some fun. Add heart-shaped lips, eyelashes, eyebrows, or whatever you want to make your cookies cute.
