Yesterday we made Simple Patriotic Wreath Cookies and today we’re making How to Make Fun Red White and Blue Cookies. Does it feel like July because it is! I like making these red white and blue cookies because it feels like the grill is hot and the fireworks are in the air. Let’s make a few more cookies so we can celebrate and enjoy the fireworks show!

Happy July everyone! July 4th is almost here and we’re ready to celebrate by grilling out our favorite foods and eating red, white, and blue cakes and cookies. Making patriotic cookies is a great way to spread the joy of the holiday because you don’t need special cookie cutters or need to invest a lot of money in supplies. You can make ‘How to Make Simple Patriotic Wreath Cookies’ with two circle cookie cutters with a straight edge or a fluted edge because they both look great. The fluted side adds a little charm and character, but straight circle cookie cutters are just as fun.

If I was a little more crafty I’d make a wreath like this for my front door because it’s a very patriotic wreath!

American Flag Cookies have been on my to-do list for a while now. With all of the humidity in my area, I wasn’t sure how to decorate them without all of the colors running together. Then it happened! A lightbulb went off when I saw all of the plank cookies popping up all over the place. So what did I do? I sat and waited patiently so I could make them for Independence Day. The United States of America Cookie Cutter with red, white and blue planks. Perfect for those of us with high humidity issues.

Do you ever shoot off fireworks? If you don’t, let me encourage you to try it this year. I am one of the lucky ones that get to help set off the fireworks at the camp 4th of July Celebration. It is a massive show and there is never a dull moment. It takes timing, communication and a lake to jump into incase something goes wrong like when I accidentally shot my son Tylor with a roman candle. It sure was nice having a lake for him to jump into.

Incase you are wondering, yes that is a true story and Tylor wasn’t hurt. The container for the roman candle fell over after the first fiery burst shot out of it and Tylor happened to be in the direct line of fire as the second flaming ball shot out of the tube. He ran into the lake and wasn’t hurt at all.

Now I am not suggestion you set your son on fire this July 4th, but you can make these star cookies that actually sparkle to place on your holiday table. They are easy to make and your guests will get a bang out of them!

Earlier this week I showed you How to Make Fun and Fabulous Flag Cookies with the neat cutters Tracy and I worked on a few weeks ago. I had an idea and wanted to make a simple, but unique cookie platter that would look like a flag for the 4th of July. When I explained what I wanted we began talking about the how, when, and wheres of how to make it work. Well, the cutters are made and I couldn’t be happier with them. I made a simple flag that you can see here, but today I decided I want to show you how to distress sugar cookies to get an aged look. It is a perfect way to make a rustic flag cookie platter.

A few weeks ago I decided to make flag cookies for July 4th and I wanted to use a fun cookie cutter to make them so I called my friend Tracy at Whisked Away Cutters. I told her I wanted to order some cutters and I explained what I had in mind. The more we talked, the more the design morphed into something way better than what I had in mind. Tracy designed a wavy cutter and a new wonky star and I love them.

I have a very important job on the 4th of July every year. I am on of the “Official Fireworks Lighters!” (I know that is not a real thing but, let me feel special and important!) Every year at camp we have a 4th of July fireworks show. We set up a table at the lake, play loud music, eat watermelon, and make S’mores and hang out with the most amazing staff EVER! There are only a selected few that get to hold a torch and light the magical wick that fizzles down and makes beautiful lights in the sky. I am one of those people.While everyone is laughing and talking, the chosen ones move to the table that is set up on the opposite side of the lake and fight over the best torch!
