Edible Snowflakes for hat topper: I’m going to be 100% honest with you, I bought these wafer paper snowflakes a few years ago at Cracker Barrel. I’m not sure if they still sell them, but if you can’t find them, you can use these Snowflake Plungers to make some with fondant.

Snowflake Plunger

  • If you’re going to make the snowflakes with the plungers you need to make them and the royal icing eyes a few days in advance so they’ll be nice and dry when you’re ready to make the elves.
  • Begin by baking some of Sugarbell’s ghost cookies. Let them cool completely before you decorate them.
Let’s do this:

  • Draw the ears and the furry part onto the cookie.
  • Outline the face with the tan royal icing.
  • Flood the face and place the royal icing eyes while the icing is wet.
  • Use the turkey lacer to carefully move the eyes in place.
Time for the hat:

  • It’s time to add a few details. You can paint them on with food gel color or you can draw them with a food-safe marker. I painted these, but I would also draw them in a heartbeat.  The choice is yours.

Did you notice the expressions on their faces? I like to make them look different and kind of like they are up to something. Are they happy or sad? Are they overwhelmed? I think it’s fun to try to guess what they’re doing. How about you?

Are you making elves this Christmas? I wish I could make some elves that could help me with the Christmas tree, baking, and the dishes. Well, I take that back. I like decorating the tree, and baking, and believe it or not, I don’t mind doing the dishes. I also don’t mind making simple little elf cookies so I guess I’ll preheat the oven and bake some more. This time I think they need red hats!

Bear hugs,
