How to Decorate a Simple Little Ballet Cookie
The fun thing about decorating cookies is you can make anything you want. I’m not a ballerina, but I dream of dancing like one. The only problem I would have is trying to dance in those shoes. They’re beautiful and elegant, but I’d never be able to pull it off. It would be the worst mistake I could ever make in the dancing world so I’ll stick to making a ballet cookie instead of trying to dance.

- Begin by baking your Sugar Cookies and cutting out the little dress. I love the dress cookie cutter. It’s so cute!
- Let the cookies cool completely before you begin decorating.
- Mix your royal icing color.
- You don’t have to use pink royal icing, you can make any color you want.
- Outline the dress with the royal icing. Normally I use a decorating bag with a coupler and a tip, but lately, I’ve been enjoying the tipless decorating bags. Look at it this way, if you don’t have to wash decorating tips after you make decorated cookies, it’s a good day!
- Begin flooding the pleats of the skirt, but skip every other pleat. If you outline them while they are wet, the icing will run together and it won’t show each individual pleat. It’ll look like one piece of fabric. Letting each pleat dry for a couple of minutes will give it the definition you’re looking for.
- Continue to work around until all the pleats are flooded.
- Let it dry for about ten to twenty minutes.
- Next, flood the top of the dress.
- Use the turkey lacer to pop any bubbles and help push the icing into place.
- Let it dry completely.
What if you like a ballet cookie that has a little shading? What if you want more but you don’t have an airbrush gun? Watch the video below for a simple idea.
How to Decorate a Simple Little Ballet Cookie:
As you can see from the video this cookie is super simple. It doesn’t take much to make it cute and it doesn’t take much to give it a little shading even if you don’t have an airbrush gun.
- Dip a clean paintbrush into a little vodka and paint the area you want to shade. If the area is wet before you begin to shade it will go a lot smoother.
- Dip a small detail brush into a little food gel color. I used the same color that I used to make the dress.
- Paint the area you want to shade. Be careful and don’t use too much food gel color or it will be really hard to blend.
- Next, dip the wider brush into the vodka and use a paper towel to remove the excess. Begin blending the food gel color onto the dress.
- Continue to work your way around the pleats and at the waste.
There ya have it. A simple ballet cookie without even using your airbrush gun. Don’t worry though, we are going to be using that airbrush gun soon. Everything looks good with a little shading and highlighting.
Bear hugs,
Lisa, Tutu cookies are always cute, no matter how simple or complicated the design. It’s so funny that you posted these because I have a post with the same cookie and same design in pink ready to go this week! As always, enjoyed the tutorial.
