How to Make Cute Chocolate-Covered Candy Cookies

Let me start by saying these cute chocolate-covered candy cookies do not have chocolate on top. Nope. The ‘chocolate’ that was used in making these cute little cookies is actually brown royal icing. Have you ever decorated sugar cookies with brown royal icing so it looks like a piece of chocolate candy?

Let’s get started!

The first three shapes are decorated what same way so I do repeat myself in this tutorial. Hang on to the end so you’ll know how to make all of these cute chocolate-covered candy cookies.

  • First, outline your circle cookie and then flood it with the brown royal icing.
  • Next, let the icing dry until the top of the icing crusts over. I place mine in front of a fan for about ten minutes.
  • Add some flood icing to the top of the circle and while it’s wet, add some outline icing lines. Jiggle and wiggle the piping tip so the brown royal icing will look like chocolate on a piece of real chocolate candy.
To airbrush or not to airbrush.
  • If you look at the image above you can make a decision to add some airbrush color to your chocolate circle cookie or to leave it plain. I personally like the added airbrush, but if I was in a hurry or had to make a million of them I might choose not to airbrush them. It’s up to you. Do whatever you like!
  • Let the cookie dry completely.
Rectangle-shaped candy cookies:

  • First, outline your rectangle cookie and then flood it with the brown royal icing.
  • Next, let the icing dry until the top of the icing crusts over. I place mine in front of a fan for about ten minutes.
  • Add some flood icing to the top of the rectangle and while it’s wet, add some outline icing. Jiggle and wiggle the piping bag so the brown royal icing will look like chocolate on a piece of real chocolate candy.
  • It’s your decision to airbrush or leave it just as it is.
  • Let the cookie dry completely.
Square-shaped candy cookies:

  • First, outline your square cookie and then flood it with the brown royal icing.
  • Next, let the icing dry until the top of the icing crusts over. I place mine in front of a fan for about ten minutes.
  • Add some flood icing to the top of the square and while it’s wet, add some outline icing. Jiggle and wiggle the piping bag so the brown royal icing will look like chocolate on a piece of real chocolate candy.
  • It’s your decision to airbrush or leave it just as it is.
  • Let the cookie dry completely.
Heart-shaped candy cookies:

  • First, outline your heart cookie and then flood it with the brown royal icing.
  • Next, let the icing dry until the top of the icing crusts over. I place mine in front of a fan for about ten minutes.
  • Next, strip the heart cookie with the white outline royal icing. It will look like those amazing little chocolate in those heart-shaped boxes. Don’t you love Valentine’s Day?
  • I did not airbrush the heart cookies. Since they are striped with the white outline royal icing I thought that made it look good without airbrushing. It just saved a step but if you want to airbrush them, go for it.
  • Let the cookie dry completely.
Add some strawberry cookies and celebrate Valentine’s Day!
