Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies
I know everyone has probably made chocolate oatmeal cookies a million times, but I wanted to share the recipe because they’re my son Tylor’s favorite cookies. He is grown and lives on his own now, but I still try to make them for him whenever I can. We met him for dinner this week and I surprised him with a batch and he smiled at me like he was 6 again. It made my heart happy!
Sharing these with him made me realize something. I know everyone knows the power of baking and the joy we have when we give someone something you made just for them. Don’t you love discovering ways people use baking to make their lives and the lives of others better? I know a lady who bakes to raise money to feed the homeless. Another lady sent me an email this week saying she was raising money to help with adoption. I know others who raise money to help children and for cancer research. It amazes me what people all over the world are doing with butter, sugar, flour, and a little time.
The point of today’s post is to go bake a smile for someone! It doesn’t have to be a perfectly decorated sugar cookie or a cake that looks like Duff or Buddy made it. These simple chocolate oatmeal cookies make Tylor happy and I know whatever you bake can make others happy.

The hardest part of making these has always been keeping Tylor from eating them all before they have a chance to cool. Madison’s favorites are the Kitchenaid Chocolate Chip Cookies so I never had to worry about them fighting for these. It’s the simple things in life that make us happy so go bake someone some cookies today. It doesn’t matter what kind you make as long as you give them with a loving heart!
Bear hugs,
You gave ME a smile by writing this entry. This recipe brought back so many fond memories of cooking with my momma, my brother and I arguing over who would get to lick the spoon, and the days when you could make special treats to hand out on to all the little tricker-treaters without parents having to fear for their children’s safety. Thank you Lisa. Happy Halloween my dear friend.
This have always been my daughters favorite also. Baking does make “your heart happy”
Will make a batch for her real soon.
What a sweet message! I think so many of us bake to make others happy – I love sending my husband into work with treats for his coworkers. Bringing a little joy to someone’s day truly does make a difference!
Lisa, These very cookies have been my (and my brother’s) favorites since I was in Brownies. Every birthday, Christmas, any special occasion (getting home from 6th grade camp:)), my mom would make these for us. My mom has been gone for 27 years and I think of her EVERY time I make them. <3
What a great recipe! Not only do they sound fabulous, but they’re no bake and quick!
I have a nice bag of oats that I have been saving for something like this. May have to get it out and get going!
Yes, you’ve hit a soft spot with me – I love these cookies and they bring back such great memories of my mom having all sorts of them laying out on wax paper – me, just waiting to grab one. They make my tummy happy! 🙂
You brought back some wonderful memories for me today. When I was a little girl, my brother and I used to go to a farm for the summer (she was our babysitter). She always made these cookies for us. We used to call them Mystery Candies and I haven’t had one since those summer days spent on the farm. I am going home and making these tongiht – just in time for my birthday. This will be my birthday present to myself and a brief memory to share with my family. Thank you so much!
I love chocolate oatmeal cookies! I first tried them as a girl, my Grandmother made them for me! I think of her everytime I make them, (or eat them) and I am in my 50’s. Such an easy way to make great memories.
I can’t wait to try these. I don’t typically like peanut butter but they look delicious. Thanks for sharing!!
Hi Audrey, you can make them with or without the peanut butter. I hope you like them! (((Fingers crossed)))
