Sweet Support: The Cookie Community is Amazing
Saying “Sweet Support: The Cookie Community is Amazing” is a huge understatement! You’ll are beyond amazing because your love has carried me through the toughest fight of my life. You prayed me back to good health and I’ll never be able to say thank you enough! You all don’t know how much you mean to me! Honestly, I wouldn’t be here if you hadn’t prayed for me. My heart is full and my brain is settling down and moving back in the place where it should be.
Okay, I was proofreading that paragraph and now my eyes are full of tears. I love you all! Thank you for caring about me!
Sweet Support: The Cookie Community is Amazing
You know my story begins with being sick for the last two years because of Bouncer the Brain Tumor, but we aren’t going to talk about Bouncer right now. I’m going to share something different with you today. I hope you’re ready for a new story because I’m going to tell you about a local news reporter that came to my house, decorated cookies with me, and shared a story of Sweet Support. The Sweet Support is you all out there in our wonderful, kind, loving, and supportive cookie community.
I wish I could invite all of you over to decorate with me. I’d truly love to meet each one of you and spend some time playing with royal icing. You’ll have given me so much with the love, prayers, and sweet messages you’ve sent me. I want to give each of you a big bear hug because you’ve helped me with the fight against Bouncer! You’ve given me support, strength, and hope. I’ll never be able to thank you enough, but please know that I care for each and every one of you.
Now let’s meet Shannon before I start crying again!
This is Shannon Smith a local news reporter for WBIR 10News in Knoxville. She sent me a message on Instagram and asked me if I’d be interested in doing a story with her for the Live at Five at Four News. Well, I didn’t answer her. I didn’t answer her because I didn’t know about the messages on Instagram. I had never seen it before. Well, now I know about them and plan on answering all the messages I get from now on.
About a week after Shannon sent me the message I saw a red dot that appeared on the paper airplane image in the top right corner of the screen. I clicked it and noticed several messages! What? That’s where the messages are on Instagram? Well, I had no idea, but I know now! LOL
So I saw Shannon’s message because it was at the top of the page so I answered it. We set up a meeting and she came to my house with a large camera, her phone, and a desire to decorate cookies. It was like an instant friendship because of royal icing and sugar cookies!
She filmed the interview while we decorated cookies and talked. We had a lot of fun! She is so sweet, professional and made the interview very easy. The best part was meeting someone who wanted to decorate cookies as much as she did and let me tell ya, I made a lot of cookies and icing so we’d have enough for the interview and ten more interviews if we needed them.
So what did we do with all those cookies I baked before Shannon arrived? I packed them up along with the royal icing and sent them with her so she could have fun decorating cookies with her boyfriend. And by the look of these cookies, they’re pretty darn good at it.
They’re also creative and did the wet on wet technique and added a cherry on top of the ice cream cookie with the blue icing. I didn’t even mention the wet on wet technique to her, but she did it and they look adorable!
It’s like Shannon and her boyfriend are naturals! Look at the ice cream cone cookie with the star and the one with the flower! WOW! Impressive Shannon!
The neat thing about Instagram is people can tag you in pictures and here’s a few Shannon shared with me. I hope we get together again because I had a great time decorating and talking to her.

You know what? Shannon helped me because my goal is to get everyone in the world to decorate cookies. I think she’s hooked and I hope she continues decorating. I know I’ll continue watching her on the news. She’s full of energy and is one of those people who make you happy when you’re with them.
Thanks, Shannon for spending the day with me! Your energy is contagious and I hope we can decorate together again soon!

What a great post! I loved watching the news story about your recovery You are my cookie inspiration and I am so happy to see you creating and doing so well.
It must be that ” making a batch of cookies a day…keeps the Dr. away” Okay, I borrowed a little of this and that…but that’s what cookie decorators do. We give credit and learn from the best cookie decorators who are so giving and supportive to all those that love to learn and create.
Susan
