Burlap Heart Cookies
Do you like the burlap and shabby chic style that is so popular right now? I like how the trend has influenced our home decor and how it has also influenced our cookie, cake and cupcake decorating. I think my favorite part of this trend is the burlap. People are making everything from burlap wreaths to table runners and chair covers . I have made a few burlap things for my home but making burlap heart cookies is one of my favorite burlap crafts. When you add a simple ribbon rose to it, it makes this the ultimate shabby chic cookie.
As I was making these burlap heart cookies I realized the possibilities for using burlap is endless. Who knows, we may even see someone wear burlap shoes one day.
How to make Burlap Heart Cookies:
Brown Icing – The icing needs to be a little thicker than 15-second icing but still thin enough to flood the cookies.
Heart Cookie -The cutter I used for this project was a gift so I can’t tell you where it came from. If you are looking for a cute heart cutter, you can find one here, here and here.
Ribbon Rose – Video Tutorial here. Make a ribbon rose a few days before and make it according to the size of your cookies,
Begin by outlining and flooding the heart with the brown icing. Let it dry several hours.
Next, pipe some vertical lines on the cookie. Try to space them evenly apart. This is important because it can make the pattern look weird if they are spaced correctly.
Once you have piped the vertical lines, start working on the burlap pattern.
Make a row of little lines across the first vertical line. Leave space in between each little line.
With the next row, start in between the lines you made on the first row. This will look a little strange at first, but it will make sense in a few minutes.
Keep repeating this pattern until you reach the other side of the cookie.
Do you see the burlap pattern now? I told you it would be strange at first, but now you can see how it all comes together to make a pretty shabby chic cookie.
Adding a simple little royal icing ribbon rose to a burlap heart cookie makes this one of my favorite shabby chic cookies of all times.
Bear hugs,

Hahahah Brenda! These cookies do take a little more time than just outlining and flooding but, it was VERY relaxing. I got lost in the pattern! LOL
