Reindeer Food-Make This Surprisingly Simple Recipe

Every family has Christmas traditions that make our holiday special. One tradition we all share is leaving milk and cookies for Santa to show him how much we appreciate all the gifts he leaves us. I want to start another simple tradition because the reindeer do so much work on Christmas Eve. They fly and pull the sleigh with the weight of all the toys. Those poor reindeer need food for energy to help them make the rounds. Let’s make some simple reindeer food so they can help deliver all the toys to the good boys and girls.

And let’s face it, they don’t call Santa “The Big Guy” for no reason at all. Those poor deer need food so let’s make something they’ll love.

Supplies for Simple Reindeer Food:

Cute buckets, treat cups or cups-The red and white buckets are from Target and were $3 each.
Post Shredded Wheat Cereal
Large Reindeer Candy Template
Reindeer Tags
Small Reindeer Candy Template
Hole Punch

Optional:
Large Treat Bag
Bakers Twine or Jute

If your going to start a new tradition of feeding the reindeer you’ll need a good container and I thought a few $3 buckets would be a good investment. If you can’t find the buckets you can use a simple treat cup or even decorate your own paper cup to look like a reindeer. Add few google eyes, a pom-pom nose, and a couple of pipe cleaners to as antlers and you have a cute little reindeer cup your kids will enjoy making.

Begin by printing out the deer patterns. There are two different styles with three different sizes. Feel free to adjust the pattern sizes as needed.
Cut out the deer tags and punch a hole in the top.
Next, grab the Shredded Wheat Cereal and a bucket.

Let the kids fill the bucket with the ‘deer food.’ It might be a little messy, but oh the memories you’ll make.
Place the bucket of deer food in a treat bag.
Tie the top of the bag with bakers twine or jute string. You don’t have to do this step, but trust me, this will keep the food in the bucket and bag instead of on the floor.
Don’t forget to add the reindeer tag.

Reindeer Food:

I had so much fun making these with my grandkids that it is now one of our Christmas traditions. The hard part is yet to come. Now we have to put these beside the milk and cookies and wait for Santa to visit.
