Let’s decorate:
- Begin by outlining and flooding the simple wishbone cookies with white royal icing. I like to use an outline and a flood consistency but you can use one consistency to make things a little more simple.
- Let the icing dry.
Time to airbrush:
- Next, you can airbrush the sides of the simple wishbone cookies or you can skip this part. The cookie will look cute either way.
- If you airbrush you will need an airbrush system and airbrush color. Four drops of Whipped white and one drop of Totally Brown worked well for the color I was looking for.
- I added the drops of the airbrush color to the well of the gun and placed my finger over the tip where the color is sprayed from. I gently pulled the trigger to mix the colors together. This is my favorite part! I know it seems like I’m a three-year-old, but I can’t help it. It’s so much fun! Give it a try and let me know what you think.
- Gently spray the color around the edges of the wishbone cookie. Go slow and don’t stop spraying in one spot or you will have a blob. Keep the airbrush moving or stop pulling the trigger.
Add the royal icing sunflower:
- Next, add a dot for the sunflower royal icing transfer and add the flower.
- I wanted to add a little something to the sunflower so I used some Totally Brown Food-Gel Color to paint around the center and then add a light layer to the surface. Make sure the part of the circle that touches the yellow flower is darker than the top of the circle.
- Wipe the brush off on a paper towel and then lightly brush the petals of the flower. This will make the top of the petals a little darker and add character.
- It’s time to pipe the leaves. If you don’t have a leaf tip you can cut a “v” at the end of your piping bag and that will work. Just remember, the bigger the “v” the bigger the leaf.
We are almost done with the simple wishbone cookies!
- Add a rope with brown royal icing. You can get a good look at this in the video. It’s super simple so don’t stress.
Add a little food gel details to the leaves:
- Use a little green food gel color and a paintbrush to add green to the leaves. Wet the tip of the brush and use a paper towel to remove most of the water. Dip the tip in the green food gel color and touch it on the paper towel again. Then gently brush over the leaves.
- See how simple this is!
Guess what? You’re all done! I told you these were simple wishbone cookies. It’s not hard at all and it’s pretty cute. If you make the sunflowers in advance this would be a great cookie for the kids to make. You don’t even have to airbrush if you don’t want to.
Have fun and I’ll be back soon with more cookies!
