Decorated Turkey Cookies made with a Bunny Cutter
I promised you ten turkeys in ten days that are made with ten different cookie cutters. Â Are you ready for it? I hope so because here is turkey number one. It is a simple little decorated turkey cookie that is made from a cute bunny cookie cutter. His tail feathers are a bit different than other turkey cookies and that helps set him apart from the crowd.
I hope during these next few days you will learn to look at cookie cutters and see more designs than what it was intended for. What do you see when you look at a bunny cookie cutter? Did you see a turkey? What about a tooth? Turn it upside down. Do you see the tooth now? Do you see a girl with piggy tails? What do you see? Think about it as you read this tutorial because I will ask you again later.

- Red Icing-15 second icing in a piping bag or bottle fitted with a #2 decorating tip.
- Royal Icing Eyes
- Optional- Chocolate covered orange sunflower seed
- Royal Icing Recipe
- Sugar Cookie Recipe
Begin by outlining the body of the turkey with the brown icing.
Next, outline one ear with the yellow icing. Then, outline the other ear with the orange icing.
Flood the ears with the yellow and orange icing and let them dry completely.
If your icing is a little bumpy, you can shake it a little to help the icing smooth out. You can even gently tap the cookie on the table to help it become smooth.
Once the ears have dried completely, flood the body of the turkey with the brown icing.
Add the royal icing eye transfers while the icing is wet.
Next, pipe a red snood on the turkey while the brown icing is wet.
Add a chocolate covered orange sunflower seed for the beak while the icing is wet. If you don’t have chocolate covered sunflower seeds, you can use the orange or yellow icing to make a beak.
Now it is time to make the feathers. If you don’t have a #6 tip, you can use whatever size you have on hand. Use the tick icing to pipe a dot that is a little off centered at the bottom of the feather. Build the icing up a little and then pull it off to the side of the feather while easing up on the pressure. Give a quick little pull at the end to form a peak.
Work your way up the feather and then, repeat on the other side.
Repeat with the orange icing.
Let it dry completely.
So how do you like turkey number one? I am planning on using the feather technique again soon so I hope it “tickles your fancy!”
