How to Make Crazy Little Dizzy Bat Cookies

I don’t know why I’ve been decorating so many bat cookies lately but I’m kinda having fun with their fun shapes and big smiles. You remember when I made the Bat Cookies for Halloween a while back, but I didn’t make a video with the tutorial so I thought I’d share one now.

One bat cookie in this tutorial is made with a star cookie cutter so let’s call him “Super Star” and the other one is made with a baseball bat cookie cutter and its name is “Dizzy Bat!” It’s rather appropriate because you’ll have one superstar bat and one dizzy bat cookie. Let’s get started.

  • Begin by making your sugar cookie dough and cutting out a few baseball bats and bats.
  • Cut the animal bat in half so you’ll have a wing for each side of the baseball bat.
  • Place the wings on each side of the bat cookie cutter and then cut the edge of the wing so it’ll match the bat cookie perfectly.
  • Repeat for the other wing.
  • Bake your cookies according to the recipe directions so they’ll taste delicious.

  • Outline the bat with the black royal icing by starting with a circle for the bat’s head.
  • Then, add two rounded triangle shapes for the ears.
  • Next, outline the wings by following the shape of the cookie.
  • Outline the body and add the simple little legs so your outline will be complete.

  • Let the outline dry for about twenty minutes before you start flooding this dizzy little bat cookie.

  • Flood the wings with the purple royal icing and try not to cover the black outline because the black royal icing will add a little character.

  • If you want your dizzy bat to have fangs pipe two white royal icing dots below the line you drew for the mouth so he’ll look like a really happy bat.
  • Use a turkey lacer to shape the dots into a triangle.

  • Gently airbrush around the body, ears, and head so it will help your little bat look super cute and not dizzy. Since the gray royal icing is light in color be careful and spay a thin line so it doesn’t look clunky.

  • The dizzy bat cookie is done and I think she looks wonderful! What do you think?

  • As for the star cookies, the process is the same. The shape is different and look is a little different but follow the steps above on the dizzy bat cookies and you’ll have yourself a superstar bat in no time at all.

  • The smile and the airbrush are the same as well so have a little fun and make yourself a superstar bat!
