Whimsical Coffee Pot Cookies

Several months ago Mike and Karen from Karen’s Cookies asked me to participate in a secret project they were planning for Cookie Con 2015. I grew more and more interested with every word as they revealed the details of what they had planned. They wanted several cookie decorators to make a book about a girl named “Cookie Connie.” Get it? Cookie Con, Cookie Connie! They wanted us to make cookies that showed what she went through as she received a cookie order. Each decorator was assigned a page in the book with a theme. We would make cookies for our page and tell Cookie Connie’s story. I had a hard time not interrupting them as they explained because I wanted to scream, “Yes! Yes! I will do it!”

Then the list of the cookie choices arrived and I immediately knew which situation I was going to pick. Connie needs coffee. That is me. I need coffee and Cookie Connie needs coffee so it was a perfect match. The only problem is I wanted to make really cute coffee pot cookies but didn’t have a cute cutter so I texted my friend Tracy from Whisked Away Cutters and asked her if she had or was willing to make a cute coffee pot cookie cutter. She told me she had a whimsical coffee pot cutter in mind and would be happy to make it for me. I couldn’t wait to get started!

When the coffee pot cutter arrived I was blown away! This was the coffee pot cutter of my dreams! It almost looked like it was dancing. Tracy out did herself! It was fabulous!

I haven’t told you the best part yet! I was the Keynote Speaker for Cookie Con this year and I had the privilege of reading the book to everyone after my speech! Oh my gosh! It was so much fun sharing Cookie Connie’s story and seeing all of the amazing cookies as we turned each page. We all laughed as we watched the process of Cookie Connie filling her order. Mike and Karen are genius for thinking of this!

Isn’t this book cute!

Whimsical Coffee Pot Cookies with Cookie Connie | The Bearfoot BakerHere is poor little Cookie Connie needing some coffee in a major kind of way! This is actually a self portrait of me in the mornings. I walk like a zombie to the coffee pot and stare as my coffee fills my cup with the same eyes that Cookie Connie has!

Check out that coffee pot cookie! Tracy made such a great cutter it almost decorated itself. Thank you Tracy for making this project so easy!

Time to decorate!Coffee Pot Cookies | The Bearfoot Baker

Begin by drawing the lines with a food safe marker onto the coffee pot cookies by following the lines on the coffee pot. The only thing you need to pay attention to is the spout. I turned the cookies sideways and drew a flying stick bird that looked like the ones I drew as a kid. Can you see it? The rest is easy, just follow the curves of the design.

  • Draw the pattern on the coffee pot with a food safe marker.
  • Outline the cookie with the icing color of your choice and let it dry for a few minutes.
  • Flood different sections of the cookie and let it dry for about 10-20 minutes. If you flood all the parts of the cookie at the same time, it won’t have the details of the handle, spout, base and lid.

  • Next, you can airbrush the coffee pots if you want to add some depth and detail but you don’t have to. I think it looks good both ways.
  • If you do choose to airbrush it, follow the edges of each section until you have the coverage you are looking for.
  • Let it dry completely.

I absolutely love the cookie community because of stories and projects like this. Mike and Karen had a brilliant idea and asked decorators for help. Tracy used her magic and creative brain to make the perfect coffee pot cutter so I could make the cute coffee pot cookies for my theme. I got to decorate and read an adorable book to my friends at Cookie Con. It doesn’t get much better than this my friends!

I am working on a Cookie Con 2015 post. I should have it done soon because I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

Bear hugs,

Lisa
