Daisy Cookies with Simple Ladybugs
Spring has arrived and is in full bloom and I know that because everywhere I look I see beautiful flowers popping up showing off their vibrant colors and unique shapes. If you haven’t stopped to smell the roses or even take a moment to see how beautiful nature is, you need to do it today because you won’t be disappointed. If you don’t have time to smell the roses, make some daisy cookies instead!
Living in the mountains you see all kinds of wonderful things in nature. I have several beautiful wildflowers growing along my driveway so I stopped took a few pictures and it made me think about my blog. I was a bit surprised when I realized I haven’t made many flower tutorials because I love flowers. Today that is going to change because I have several tutorials planned. I think fun daisy cookies are the perfect place to start.
Daisies are a rather simple flower but they are also powerful. I think Meg Ryan said it best in the movie, “You’ve Got Mail” when she said, “Aren’t daisies the friendliest flowers?” I agree that they are so let’s give a friend a bouquet of daisies or a platter of daisy cookies so we can share some cookie love.

15 Second Icing – Yellow, White, and Brown
Yellow Sprinkles
Black Non-Pareils – Not the ones I use for eyes. These are much smaller and work well for flowers. The 4mm black edible pearls is what I recommend for eyes but aren’t used to make these cookies.

Enjoy the video!
- Are you looking for a good Sugar Cookie Recipe, Chocolate Roll-Out Cookie Recipe, or maybe you need a good Royal Icing Recipe? If so, you are welcome to try mine. If you don’t like them, there are hundreds out there you can experiment with until you find one that works for you.
- I love adding different cookie recipes to my platters because it adds variety and gives the guest a choice. Adding chocolate cookies will add a little interest and who doesn’t like chocolate because it’s delicious!
- Begin by outlining the petals of the flowers.
- Flood the two petals at the end of the daisy cookie and let them dry for about 10 minutes. You will know when it has dried enough to add the next petal because you will notice the icing on the first two petals will crust over. The reason to wait until it crusts over is so the icing will make the petals look individual and give them a separated look instead of making them look like they are all one petal.
- Next, flood one of the center petals and let it dry for a few minutes.
- Repeat for the last petal and let the cookies dry overnight.
- Now it is time to add the center of the flower so place a cookie in a coffee filter. Coffee filters are a great tool to use when adding sprinkles because the curved sides will catch the sprinkles and the flexibility of the filter will allow you to easily add the unused sprinkles back to the original container. Bridget over at Bake at 350 taught this little trick to us. Her blog is full of great tips and beautiful cookies.
- Pipe the center with the brown icing. Be careful not to overflood the center or the weight of the nonpareils could make the icing fall over the edge of the cookie.
- Sprinkle the nonpareils onto the wet brown icing.
- Gently shake off the excess.
- Aren’t they cute?
- Do you remember a long time ago when we made the royal icing ladybug transfers? Well, this is a great way to use them to add a little more fun to your daisies. All you need to do is make the ladybug transfers a few days in advance and use a drop of white or yellow icing to glue them to the daisy cookies. This is the reason 1,000,001 why I love royal icing transfers. If you have a good supply of transfers on hand, you can add fun things to your cookies quickly without worrying about the icing bleeding or drying time for the icing.
Daisy Cookies and Simple Lady Bugs:
If you want to add the ladybug cookies, follow the steps below:
- Pipe a half circle with black icing for the head of the ladybug. Use a spatula or butter knife to spread a thin layer of black icing for the tail of the ladybug. Let it dry overnight.
- Outline the body with red icing.
- Flood the body with the red icing.
- Add some black royal icing transfers to the body. You can find the free circle pattern here. Instead of making white eyes, I just used black icing to make black dots. Use the size that goes best with the size of your ladybug cookie.
- Let it dry overnight.
I am finally glad to be sharing some cute daisy cookies and can’t wait to make some different varieties of flower cookies. Stayed tuned for more flowers shortly. In the meantime, I hope you get a chance to go outside and smell the roses.
Bear hugs,
wow – so beautiful!

I am going to have to watch that movie again! LOL
What sized cutter did you use for these lovely flowers? Would love to get one and those look like the perfect size.
Hi Lea,
I got the 3 1/2″ x 2 1/4″ Lazy Daisy Cutter. It is a great size but then again, I would not mind having every size of them! LOL
I love daisies, had them as my wedding flowers! Your daisy cookies are so pretty!
You have a great site. Really appreciate all the tips and tutorials you share. You make it look fun and easy.

Where did you get your ladybug cookie cutter from?
Hi Ginger,
I bought it at Amazon. Here is my affiliate link: http://amzn.to/2qoN9cB You don’t have to have the exact lady bug cutter. Just find one you like that’s the size you need and it will work. 😉
