How to Airbrush Cookies Video- Crab Legs
I promised you crab leg cookies this week and here they are. I decided to show how to airbrush a cookie with a video. It is so much easier than taking a millions of pictures.
These are among my favorite cookies ever. Mostly because they were really fun to make and I love the depth the airbrushing added. The best part is I only used one color of icing but you can’t really tell because the airbrush gives them so much depth. I used multiple airbrush colors in light layers and the effect turned out better than I hoped it would. I was really focused on the shrimp cookies for the Seafood Cookies tutorial but, these little guys quickly became my favorite.

I believe in using what you have so for the crab legs, I used a fork and spoon cookie cutter. If you only have the fork, use it. If you only have the spoon, use it. If you don’t have either one, you can use the letter “I” or the letter “L” cutter and trim it so it will work for you.
Just trim the cutters, place them on a baking sheet and bake them according to the sugar cookie directions.
With the white icing and a #2 tip, outline the legs. Food every other section and let them dry for about 20 minutes.
Then, flood the remaining sections and let them dry for about an hour.
With the thick icing and a #2 tip, make little spikes randomly about the legs. Let the cookie dry completely. We want them nice and dry for airbrushing. The cookies don’t have to be dry to airbrush them but, it works best with the little spikes on the legs.

I can’t tell you how much fun I have when I airbrush cookies. I hope I can do several more tutorials for you before the holiday season arrives. It is a great way to decorate a lot of cookies quickly.
Well now you have a gift idea for someone who is allergic to shell fish or a dessert to take to a seafood party. I wonder if we could take these to Red Lobster. Do they allow you to bring your own desserts? Wouldn’t it be funny to try?

Bear hugs,
You are so tidy! And, are you double jointed? LOL!!! I would have dumped color everywhere and had spray up my nose and on all surrounding surfaces. Really awesome…can’t wait to see more videos. I love to learn by watching!!!
Oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh. This set is completely and totally wack!!!! I love it so bad and you are so amazing! Not enough exclamation marks in the world to tell you how awesome this is!!!
Awesome!!! I love watching your video’s. I just done some pumpkins, using the orange & copper! I’ve learn how to airbrush by watching you so thank you for sharing with us..
These cookies are brilliant – they look so real! I’m in awe of your airbrushing technique/artistry. I’ve never tried airbrushing, but you make it look so easy. I would probably make a huge mess. Thanks for sharing! Great job!
When I see your airbrushing, I really really really think about buying one. Then I remember that I’m a klutz and would probably have an airbrushed dog and couch. I’m so bad that my neighbors would probably complain about the sudden color everywhere.
These are pure awesomeness Lisa, thanks for giving me stuff to squeal about!
Lisa, I just love your seafood sampler platter – I can’t decide which to order! You’re a master with that airbrush!
Unbelievable! So real. I love your blog. Get to learn something new and creative every time I am here. Thank you.
Wow! I’m so impressed! May I ask what kind (brand) of air brush you prefer?
Sure Mary! If you click “airbrush gun” under supplies, it will take you to the machine I use. It is the only brand I have tried but, I have had great results with it.
So unbelievably real looking! I grew up on lots of crab (my grandfather was a crabber, had his own boat and everything!) and these take me back 🙂
These are so stinkin’ cute! Such detail that it is seriously making me crave seafood!! Beautifully done!
These are incredible, Lisa, just like your shrimp cookies! Is a tutorial on how you did those fanstastic lemon cookies in work? I would love to see those too!
Thanks Mike! I would love to share the lemon airbrushing tutorial. I will work on that soon. 🙂
I enjoyed watching the progression of your crab leg cookies on the video! They look perfect!
