Easter Cookies with a Twist
Want to make Easter cookies with a twist or maybe just a simple little zebra stripe? If so, you are in the right place because bunnies with a zebra strip are simply adorable! Sometimes when decorating cookies you need to think outside of the box and an animal print is an easy way to do that because it gives a simple unique look to ordinary cookies.
Here is a simple little tip to help make your platter stand out. Make all of the zebra-striped cookies with the same color except for one design. Decorate that cookie with the same pattern but change the color. This cookie may not be the star of the platter but it will make your platter pop. Then, to pull it all together, add some accent flowers to the other cookies in that same color to give it a customized look. Easy huh?

Rabbit Cookie Cutter
Carrot Cookie Cutter
Circle Cookie Cutter- Trim off the top and bottom to make a plaque cutter.
15-second icing in the following colors:
White
Black Icing
Orange Icing
Green Icing
Royal Icing Flowers and Free Nail Template– Roses & Apple Blossom (These should be made a few days before so they will be dry when you make the rabbits.)
- Begin by outlining and flooding the rabbit with the white icing so be careful with the icing consistency because it’s important when making cookies with two different colors of wet icing.
- If the white icing is too thick it will be hard to add the black icing because it will sit on top and won’t dry like a nice smooth cookie.
- The chance of the color bleeding increase tremendously if the icing is too thin. And thin icing will be more likely to fall off the edge of the cookie so be careful during this step of the decorating.
- Next, work fast so the white icing does not crust over before you can add the zebra print.
- Add some wonky skinny triangles on the cookie to represent the zebra pattern because all zebras have stripes.
- Make them random while going horizontally from one side of the cookie to the other side.
- Continue to work down the cookie and go back and fill in the wonky triangles with the black icing because we all know that zebra stripes are black and that makes them adorable on bunny cookies.
- If the black icing needs to be smoothed out use a turkey lacer to help spread it out so it’ll dry flat and be pretty when it dries.
- Let the cookie dry completely.
- Next, outline the cookie with the black icing because piping that line will give it a nice finished look.
- Isn’t that a cute bunny? Would you like to watch a video to see him get decorated in action?

Here you go!
- Now add the accent to make it look even better because it is Easter and we all need to look our best.
- With the orange icing, make a necklace by adding a line across the neck and two strings hanging down.
- Add a dot on each end.
- Add a royal icing flower transfer of your choice and let everything dry completely.
- Make sure everything is dry before you package them or they might get messy.
- Once you know how to do the zebra stripe, it’s an easy pattern to repeat on the remaining cookies.
- See the rectangle cookies with the rounded edges? Those started off as circles and I cut the top and bottom off to make plaque cookies because it’s a simple way to make different sized plaque cookies by using cutters you already own.
Now stay tuned for more Easter cookies with a twist because I’ll be using these same cookie cutters to make different patterns with a unique twist. I think you will like what I have planned for you.

Bear hugs,
I SO love these! They are totally adorable! Unfortunately, Easter snuck up on me, so I won’t have time to try it this year…maybe on another cookie.
I am not sure I can figure out zebra print. I am still working on royal icing consistency, consistency. Sometimes it’s perfect and I am golden and other times not so much! 🙂
These cookies look very professional! What size tip are you using for piping?
Thanks!
Ms. Brown
I forgot to add that. Sorry! I used a #2 and @2.5 PME tips but you could use a Wilton #2 or #3. I used the #2.5 for the white icing and the #2 for the black to get a more detailed point on the zebra pattern.
Thank you!
These are so adorable, Lisa. The carrots are really precious!
Easter cookies on the wild side … so fun and different! It’s good to mix things up 😉
thanks, I will try it!
How is the zebra pattern done on the orange and green cookies?
It is done the exact same was as the back and white but with different colors. Just follow the steps in the video. 😉
Lisa did you use the same technique for the carrots? If so, what color on the carrots did you use for the zebra stripes? Thank you!!!
