Music Note Royal Icing Transfers and Templates
Fa la la la la, la la la la. It is not quite time to deck the halls but, you can deck your cookies, cupcakes and cakes with these music note royal icing transfers.
I really like the little sprinkles and I wish I had made two sets. One black and one with bright, bold and fun colors. I will probably make the colorful cuties soon and store them for later.

Begin by printing the templates and taping them to a flat surface such as a cutting board or the back of a baking sheet. Then, cover with with wax paper and tape it down so it is nice and smooth. You don’t want wrinkles or your transfers will have wrinkles.
Outline and flood the notes then let them dry. Since these royal icing transfers have parts that are very thin, let them dry for a couple of days before trying to remove them.
As you can see in this image, I tried to make the treble clef on the far right a little thicker than the others. I don’t know if I had some sort of panic attack when trying to remove it but, it was the only on that broke while trying to remove them. Go figure!
These were a request from one of you. I love hearing what you all need and trying to help by making you a template or two. I think I am going to switch to holiday templates now because I have several I want to share with you. Royal icing transfers will have us singing this holiday season. I am stocking up and getting ready to make massive amounts of cookies and cupcakes for friends and family. I am determined to be prepared so I can enjoy the holidays without running around like crazy or staying up all night waiting on something to dry.

Anything would look good on your gorgeous cupcakes!!!
Cute! Reminds me of my junior high years. I was in orchestra and played the cello. I had to practice over and over again how to draw treble and bass clefs for homework assignments. 🙂
HAHAHA! I played the French Horn! The case was bigger than I was but, I sure could belt out the “Dallas” theme song! LOL
Where do you store all your transfers? Any tips are much appreciated!!

I just started making my Christmas cards today, and then I see this post! It’s kismet!
I am so ready for the holidays! Or at least I will be:)
I love the idea of transfers. I am thinking of taking this idea but instead of music notes, I want to make Mickey Mouse heads for my sons 1st birthday coming soon on sept 3 (side note I gave birth on Labor Day last year =/)
Anyway I was wondering after it true, how do you actually transfer the icing onto a cookie? Do you cut each wax paper a slide it off the wax paper carefully onto the cookie? Or any advice on the easiest way? My fear is that I waited 2 days for it to dry but end up breaking when trying to apply it =/
Hi Arlene,
I have never covered an entire cookie with a royal icing transfer before but, I would do it exactly like a small transfer. You should make the transfers according to the size of your baked cookie. (Cookies spread when baked so use an actual baked cookie for the patteren instead of the cutter.)
Make the transfers and let them dry completely, remove from the parchment paper and add to a cookie with wet icing.
There are a lot of Mickey Mouse Cookie tutorials out there. You may want to Google them for a few tips.
is there a special program you use to make the templates?
Hi Courtney,
I don’t have a special program I use. It is one that was on my laptop when I purchased my computer.
Hey Lisa,
I really loved your idea of music note transfers but when I tried to use your template I only got the double eighth note page. Is there also a page with the treble clefs and quarter notes?
Hi Consuelo,
I bought a new computer and my templates for the notes are on the old computer. I will try to add them asap. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
I have added all the templates for you Consuelo. Hope you have fun making them. Remember, since they are delicate you will need to make a lot of extra incase they break.
why my royal icing crack? please help…
Hi Murat,
What recipe are you using for your royal icing?
