How to Make Moss Bunny Cookies
Do you ever get a song stuck in your head? I do and it happens often. I have heard that if you listen to the entire song that it might help you get it off your mind. Well, I can’t stop thinking about Moss Bunny Cookies! It is all I have been able to think about since Easter. I can’t stop so I decided to make them in hopes that doing so will help me stop obsessing over them.
It didn’t work. Now that I have made them I am more obsessed than ever! I want to add moss to everything and I blame Mike at Semi Sweet because he made the best moss bunny cookies ever!

Outline and Flood:
- To make the “Moss” you need some graham crackers and a few drops of green food gel. I like AmeriColor but you can use whatever you want because you know, you are amazing and you know what works best for you. If your graham crackers don’t turn green right away, you may need to add a little vodka to thin it out a little. Once you get it mixed and chopped, spread it out on a cookie sheet and let it dry for about an hour or so.
- Outline the rabbit with the green icing. By the way, the icing is 15-second icing and it is in a piping bag with a #2 decorating tip.
- Flood the back ear with the green icing.
- Next, place the cookie in a coffee filter and sprinkle some graham crackers on the ear only.
- Shake off the excess sprinkles and let it dry for about ten minutes.
Finish adding the icing and moss:
- Flood the rest of the rabbit with the green icing. Be careful not to overflood it or it might run off the edge once you add the green graham crackers.
- Place the rabbit in the coffee filter again and sprinkle it with the graham crackers while the icing is wet.
- Gently shake off the excess.
- Next, use a BooBoo Stick or a toothpick to gently press along the ear and the front leg to give a little separation so it doesn’t look like a big green blob.
- Place the feet in the coffee filter or in the graham cracker container and outline and flood them with the green icing. Cover them with green graham crackers.
- Use the BooBoo Stick to make a line for the foot. Let it dry overnight.
- You have a choice to make here. Once the front side is dry, you can flip the cookie over and repeat for the back so when it stands, both sides will be decorated. Or you can just do one side. Make sure the cookie is dry on both sides before you move to the next step.
- Next, add icing to the back of the feet.
Time to put the bunny together:
- Once the feet are ready you need to add them to the bunny.
- Place one on each side of the rabbit and hold them for a second or two. Make sure the bunny is straight and is not tipping over.
- Support it with whatever you have around the house. I like to use bottles of sprinkles and make a cookie maze with them.

All bunnies don’t have to be mossy:
If you don’t like moss bunny cookies, you can always make some plain and simple bunnies. Just pick a solid color of icing and leave off the green graham crackers. Now that I have made moss bunny cookies, maybe the moss cookies will get out of my mind and I can make some cute flower cookies or something. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy these as much as I have.
