I think I get a thing for eyes when Halloween approaches and these super creepy eye royal icing transfers prove it. In the past, I’ve made eye cookies, eye royal icing transfers, spooky eyes and so many more.  I have a plan for these super creepy eye royal icing transfers and I’ll share it with you soon. Until then, let’s make some of these to use on any cookies you choose.

You can make these any color you want. Just make one color of royal icing a little darker than the royal icing color you add to the inside. That is the thing that will make these work for you. Let’s get started.

Royal Icing Colors:

(Some of the colors from The Cookie Countess aren’t available anymore. I’ve substituted the colors below. They might not be exact but they’ll work well for the eyes.)

Let’s Decorate:

  • Begin by taping your FREE pattern to your cut foam board and then tape the cello bag on top. Now you’re ready to begin piping your Super Creepy Royal Icing Eye Transfers.
  • Mix your icing colors. The thing that makes the eyes look as they do is using two colors of royal icing. One needs to be slightly darker than the one you are going to pipe in the center. It makes the eyes look more realistic than just one color.
Outline and Flood:
  • Make a thick outline with the darker color of royal icing.
  • While the outline is wet, fill the center with the lighter color of royal icing.
  • Use your turkey lacer to pull the darker color toward the center of the eye. Work your way around the cookie and then look how cool that looks!
  • Let the eyes dry.

Time to Make the Pupil:
  • There are different ways to make the pupil for the eyes. You can pipe black royal icing to the center of the eye while the royal icing is wet. That will make a flat pupil. It can be a little hard to make a perfect circle so keep that in mind.
  • You can also use the FREE pattern to pipe the pupils and let them dry. Then remove them from the cello bag and use a little royal icing to glue them into place. This will make the pupil look a little more 3D-ish.
  • Or you can let the eye dry, then pipe the pupil directly into the center of the eye. This will also give you a 3D-ish look.

If you pipe the pupil directly into the wet eye and you end up not liking the circle shape you made, you can cover it once it dries. Just pipe the black over the wonky circle like I did on the yellow eyes.

I hope you like these and I’m super excited to see how you use them. I’m also excited to share my idea with you.

Remember, let them dry completely before you remove them from the cello bags. It’s been humid here for the last few days so I’ve been waiting on mine to dry. And yes, I did break a few of them because I tried to remove them before they were dry. Learn from my mistake. LOL
