Rose Tip Christmas Tree Cookie
I was talking to a cookie friend of mine the other day and she had a great idea. She asked if I knew how to use certain tips the proper way. Well, I have taken a few cake classes in my day but I am not an expert, but I do want to share what I have learned with you. I also like to experiment with tips so I will let you know how those turn out. Let’s start with the rose tip. Did you know the rose tip isn’t just for roses? You can use it for a great textured tree.
I made this little guy for a Christmas set but didn’t have time to post it. It is the perfect example of using a tip in a new way to achieve a certain texture on your cookie. Who knew a rose tip would be good for making trees?
Supplies for The Rose Tip Tree:
Green Outline Icing
Light Brown Outline Icing
Dark Brown Outline Icing
White Icing (thicker than flood but not as thick as outline)
White Disco Dust
Paint Brush
Rose Tip #102
Follow the steps above to create the bark on the trunk.
This technique is really easy and all you need is the rose tip and the green outline icing. I prefer to use a bag instead of a bottle for this technique because it allows me to control the pressure for the best results.
Hold the bag so the wide part of the rose tip will lay flat on the cookie like in the picture above.
Apply pressure to create a small mound of icing. Decrease the pressure as you slowly pull the bag away from the mound and end the leaf with a quick pull to create a point.
Overlap each row so you don’t see any cookies through the icing. Repeat until you get to the top of the tree.
You could stop there or you could add some snow. If you want to add snow let this part dry overnight.
With the white icing, apply the “snow’ to the edges of the tree.
With the paint brush, paint some white icing on the rest of the green because we all know snow doesn’t just land on the edges.
Sprinkle with Disco Dust and you are all done!
I hope this tip works for you. Don’t be afraid to try something new with your tips to achieve a texture you need. I have a lot of tips planned for the future so stop by and check them out.

Happy Creating,
I love this! I have cookies to make for a woodland baby shower and that technique will be perfect!! Thanks for sharing!! <3
I am so glad you are going to use it!! I would love to see your woodland set. Will you email me a picture or tag me on Facebook?
Oh, my goodness! I seriously absolutely love this! Thanks so much for showing such a great idea in using that tip to create such a wonderful tree cookie! Love how you did the snow too! Thanks for showing us, Lisa! You are quite the clever one!
I definitely will!
These look said darn real! Amazing amazing! They’re beautiful.
Wow, love the look of these, and your technique is genius. . . . you’re a genius!!! Thank you, Lisa 🙂
Lisa, When you do brush embroidery on your cookies, do you use any special kind of brushes like the artist brushes. Or can I just use the kids paint brushes? ( New ones of course!)
Hi Jeannie,
They type of brush is important. Pay attention to the end of the brush. If it’s like a kids paint brush it may not give you the best results. I prefer brushes like this set: http://amzn.to/2g2Woyz (affiliate link for Amazon). See the second one from the right? That type with the rounded edge is my fav for brush embroidery. The rounded edges make things easy. 😉
The key is to use the kind your comfortable with.
