Fall Color Palette for Cookie Inspiration
Have you ever been to Tennessee in the Fall? If you have, I am pretty sure you will never forget the stunning fall colors if you have. It is hard to describe the beauty that nature shares with us this time of year. The leaves on the trees turn the most beautiful shades of yellow, red, green, and orange. As the light shines through the leaves it looks as if the leaves are glowing and I had to share it with you.
Isn’t it gorgeous? But I want you to take a closer look. Do you see what I see? I see a perfect fall color palette. Let me show you how to take a walk in woods in the fall and turn it into inspiration for your icing colors.
How to Use Fall Colors to Make a Fall Color Palette:
Look at the colors in this photo. Did you know you can use PicMonkey to make a fall color palette for your cookies? It is easy. Let me show you how.
First things first. Go outside and take some pictures. It doesn’t matter if you ware making a fall color palette or a summer color palette. Just use nature for your inspiration by taking pictures of trees, the beach or even animals at the zoo.
Then, download your pictures on your computer and open one in PicMonkey.
Add some squares across the bottom of the photo.
Next, use the eyedropper tool to change the color of one square at a time by moving the eyedropper over the image. Once you find a color you like, move on to the next square.
When you fill all the squares, you have a perfect fall color palette straight from nature.
I can’t wait to bake some cookies and use these colors as inspiration for my icing. Seriously, I need to use these colors to redecorate my room. They are perfect!
Look at that view. Did you know it would make such a great color palette? GORGEOUS!!
I took this photo because I though the sun made the leaves on the trees glow. When I started making the color palette, I didn’t realize how dark the colors would be compared to the image. I was happily surprised.
WOW! That’s all. Just WOW!
Don’t worry if the weather isn’t perfect. Hazy days make great fall color palettes also. Just be mindful of where you focus your photo. If I would have focused on the fields and mountains without including the trees that were close to me, look what I would have missed. That deep olive green would have stayed in the woods and would not have made it to my cookie colors.

Just a tip to remember when making a color palette, don’t go super crazy when you are picking colors. I have 6 colors in each of these photos but, when I start mixing icing colors, I may only use 3 or 5. It just depends on what kind and how many cookies I am making. The only thing I know is, it would be hard for me to only pick 3 colors because a fall color palette is like oxygen to me. It gives me life and energy. I think I will go back out today and take some pictures of a few creeks with leaves gently flowing down stream. I wish you could come with me.
Bear hugs,
What a great tip! Thank you. I can see myself using this for sewing and paper crafts as well as for “cookie-ing” a picture. This should work with my Photoshop program, too.
I am glad you can usse it Claudia. It really helps when you can’t decide on colors. I use it all the time! 😉
My mouth is still agape from reading “Did you know you can use PicMonkey to make a fall color palette for your cookies?”
FABULOUS!
I am glad you like it Gail. I use it for cookies and cake decorating. It is also a good way to find new paint colors. Enjoy!
You are my new best friend Lisa. I have been using picmonkey since it started, but have NEVER found the eye dropper tool! And yes, I’ve searched for it! And I’ve read tutorials. So for anyone that had trouble like me… you have to click on your overlay and then click on the COLOR and then the palette opens up and there is the eye dropper tool. I can’t believe I never found it before your post. Thank you so much Lisa! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of getting colors directly from photos! Thank you sweet girl! And I am loving your new book too! Hugs, Cristin
I am so glad you found it Cristin!! It is a game changer! You have a new world to play with!! Hahahahaha
I love that little eye dropper tool and now I love it even more. And yes, I have been to beautiful Tennessee in the fall, one of my very BEST memories!
The eyedropper tool is wonderful!! 😉
