How to Cut out Perfect Sugar Cookies Every Time
How to cut out perfect sugar cookies every time. This one took me a while to figure out. I would mix my dough, chill it for an hour in the refrigerator and roll it out. Then, I would drag out all my cookie cutters and start cutting. When I tried to lift the cut cookie dough off the cutting mat or counter, the cookies would go wonky and I would try to get them back into the shape of the cookie cutter. It wasn’t a pleasant process.
If I tried to cut out cookie cutters that had tiny spaces, I would poke it with a toothpick or whatever would fit inside the tiny space and I would end up poking a hole in the dough. So frustrating!
One day I stuck the rolled dough into the freezer and my new way of cutting out sugar cookie dough was born. I am so glad I am not the type of person that gives up easily. I can be very stubborn.
How to Cut out Perfect Sugar Cookies Every Time Video:
In the video, I used 3 types of cutters, plastic, tin and the comfort grip cutters from Wilton. The plastic cookie cutter was the hardest to press into the cold dough. If you have a hard time cutting out the shapes let the dough warm up a little more. The dough isn’t frozen when I cut the shapes out. It is just really cold.
That is how I cut out perfect sugar cookies shapes every time I make cookies. I want to say if you have a technique that works for you, don’t change it. There is a saying around my house that says, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” This method may not work for you and that’s OK. We don’t all do things the same way so I want to share how I do it and hopefully save someone somewhere a little frustration.
